Title: Bangor
Post by: Wawajones on April 24, 2026, 07:58:53 AM
Opening day at Bangor Raceway Sunday, 11:45!  Looks like a significant purse increase.  $5,000 claimers are racing for a $5,100 purse and, honestly, no one would pay more than $2,000 for most of them.  Looks like Maine horsemen should be able to make a few dollars this season with bottom level stock.

Garbage racing. With garbage betting pools. Maine racing is a joke. Bet $20 on a horse you like and it goes from 10-1 to 1-1. The purses are decent for the garbage horses. But it’s impossible to bet.

Half mile, no passing lane..but increased purses.
Watched today.
Will try.it next week, needed a program line or two to play.

Cumberland and Bangor early starts, like Saratoga work for me.

Agreed that it is difficult to bet, but it is decent for the whoresmen, cheap stock, decent purses, very little competition in the Maine Sire Steaks.

Speaking of Maine Sire Stakes. There is a horse named Race Me Celtic. A homebred from the William Childs stable. He raced in Maine during his 2 and 3 yo seasons. The horse made $72k in 2 years with a plodding mark of 1:58 on a half mile cow pasture track. The horse was sold after his 3yo season to Jessica Millners owners in Ohio. The horse was locked in and free too late in his first start at $2.30 to 1. The next start. Somehow the horse goes off at 9/1. I wagered everything I had in my account on the horse and even deposited more. I absolutely robbed Northfield that night. 30 minutes ago the horse had a laughable 6/1 morning line and went off at 3/2 and was a easy open length winner in 1:50 and a piece. That EPO is absolutely ridiculously amazing. Because William Childs doesn’t give his horses anything. But hay oats and water.
