Happy opening day!
To celebrate the addition of rolling Doubles to Plainridge Park's wagering menu, he's a preferred mid-card Double:
R7: Alex Having Fun (5-2 ML)
R8: Just A Little Bit (12-1 ML)

Should we bet on Ranger or toss? He is old now and has not been driving.
-
without Bret--there will be plenty of opportunities for others
I look for Kevin Switzer to do well...I have always liked his style of driving
-
I expect Switzer will do well as always. Ranger usually starts slow, but always has a good meet. I'll keep an eye on both Mitchell Cushing and Ron Cushing. Both can "pop" at a big price. Also watch Drew Monti. He'll bring in a price a few times.
-
win and exacta pools barely $3k a race
as a bettor, it is a tough place to want to bet
-
Bombs Away for Mitchell Cushing. I told you, gotta watch him at a price!

A tough place to bet without “stepping on” your own money!!

He’s a fckin idiot. Drove my ex horse Sonny black like a moron. Stays on the rail he’s first or second
Horse has only one eye. He knew that

LUCPARK, I did watch the race. I agree that the rail trip was the best way to win. When he went three wide, did you think you were a winner anyway? I thought if he didn't break, he was a lock to be in the Exacta.

Bombs Away again for Cushing. Geez.....

I owned all his brothers and sisters

Driver knows better

I hope he wins for fun next race. Will you stick with the same driver?

He’s not my horse any more
I said he was my ex horse
I still all my horses I’ve sold. And cheer them on tmbz1
-
Ahhhh, i'm glad you still root them on. I'm going to keep an eye out for when he runs next!
-
He's probably going to be on the stewards list and have to qualify.( A break off a qualifier.)

That horse has alot if energy, tough shipper. Smashed a few bikes in his day!
I think he sold cheap a couple of times as the owner couldn't handle him.

Good first trip to Plainridge of the season yesterday.
Good weather (for April), good crowd (for a Tuesday), and good prices in 40% of the races.
-
I think it’s alot better racing without Beckwith give everyone a chance why more competitive
-
Watched them last Monday. They have some really nice horses there going some big miles.

What do you consider a good crowd? (Not being a dick, I'm actually curious). 100 people? 500?
For the quality of racing the handle is non-existent.

When I was there last week, they had a couple hundred watching the races. Also slots folks drift in and out from the casino. When I get to Monticello over the summer, they would be thrilled to have 1/2 of watch Plainridge gets. LOL!

Pompano had a decent crowd before it closed.
Batavia dies also when the meet opens in July.

Almost all harness tracks have no fans watching at the track. And every year it gets less and less as the fans die off.

Or choose (as I do) to stay home and wager on line.

We attended the live racing and Derby festivities at Plainridge on Saturday, and it was the best day we've ever had at a harness track.
The crowd was big (we heard estimates of 4,000), track management and staff went above and beyond to create a festive and fun atmosphere, good food and drink options were plentiful, and live harness racing was provided the platform it deserves.
There are a couple areas of improvement (the in-person betting lines were long and time-consuming, and the live racing PA and audio for the Derby telecast were insufficient for the crowd), but overall it was a great showcase for the track and the sport.
-
That's great to hear.
BTW one of my biggest pet peeves.."and the live racing PA and audio for the Derby telecast were insufficient for the crowd"
Drives me insane. You have an apron full of people watching your live racing, and a lot of newbies, and you can't hear anything. That's inexcusable.

To be more specific, the DJ was great about muting his music during the live races, and you could hear the live call if you were standing in the usual grandstand area. But you didn't have to walk too far down the apron toward the "party" area of the festivities before you couldn't hear the race call during a race.
As for the Derby audio, it wasn't piped into the OTB/bar area where numerous simulcast TVs were showing the race, or over the PA for folks watching the race outside on the infield Jumbotron.
Ensuring *everyone* could hear the live race calls and Derby call would've made a great experience even better.

Good tmbz1 Definitely THRIVING!

Seems like the value in the first race of the week is #1 Ry's Red Rocket at 4-1 or better.
Anyone else have any value picks on today's card?
-
1:49.1!
-
The old man can still get it done. That horse (if he stays sound) has a chance to pace in 148 if the conditions are right.

***Rocco***;
Does Sonny black HATE going onto the trailer?
I think it's the horse I remember, he hated being shipped & he's kicked/smashed some nice race bikes. I believe he got sold real cheap because an owner/trainer couldn't handle him.

R5 Double: 4/6
R6 Double: 6/2
R7 Double: 2/2
R8 Double: 2/6
R5 P4: 4/1,6/2,3/2
