RIP Rideau Carleton
-
There are not enough horses. Take a look at the Sunday Mohawk card.
It is sad. Tracks like Rideau have no handle.

Can anyone confirm if they are racing in 2026 then closing or are they done now? Their press release is poorly worded.
-
RC is done for ever..one more year for georgian..its becoming a sad state...
-
Cue up another Harness Racing Is THRIVING topic from Pacer 2.... ngc3

For sure, Hippodrome Trois Rivieres, Kawartha, Georgian get touched by affected horsemen/horsewomen and horses.

There’s a 120 in congress and they got 34 against. I like the chances of it passing.

Genuinely shocked Georgian Downs wasn’t the next to go…
-
Georgian is on life support
its unfortunate because you need the smaller tracks so young trainers and drivers get experience and also so lower level and older horses have some where to race if they don't fit the big tracks
and yet there is a horse shortage, even mohawk is struggling to fill 4 cards a week
putting aside wagering handle( apparently it is somewhat irrelevant at most tracks ) the business seems pretty solid in many USA states
-
They mention 11 tracks as if most of them represent great successors to RC. In fact, most have short meets or offer, like the Maritimes, very low purses, and as some have commented, a few are on life support as well.
-
Rideau Carleton as been financing the Quebec industry ever since Quebec closed down all their racetracks some 20 years ago.
75% of the horses participating there have Quebec addresses.
Not a great loss.

Solid where,,,,,,,,,,Pennsylvania 200000 IN PURSES no handle or YONKERS WITH ZERO HANDLE,,,,,,,Only M1 has a handle with no welfare money.

a name please

i would suggest based on purses especially for stake races the following states are doing quite well
new york, new jersey, ohio, kentucky
-
Sure stake races but what % of races are they? Talk talk talk but if don't have casino support
you're screwed. It's coming. Gonna swallow these puny tracks up. More red flags than THRIVING. 11.wp

Nobody wants the liability of a Race Track, even with a casino. It's starting to look like more are falling quicker. Look at the Big M tonight, do you see any really good races?

15 years ago I would have shed a tear, lit a candle, done something to acknowledge my sadness for the passing of a track. Today, however, I take joy with every closing. Harness racing is a pathetic shell of what I knew, and full of people I wouldn't even let empty my trash. Close them all down and give the money to anything else. ANYTHING!
