Title: Gas prices
Post by: darnoldrocks on March 04, 2026, 12:10:31 PM
How come gas prices go up the minute oil prices go up, even though the gas we are buying was produced using far cheaper oil?
it's like oranges already on the shelf, going up because there is a concern some of the crop is going to get frost damaged 3 weeks from now.
The gas increase is just a giant price gouge.
And miraculously, all the stations increase it at the exact same time, often to the exact same price.
HHMMMMM!!    Fucking thieves.

Gas prices are always high here in Maine. War or not. Our state government loves to add taxes to gas to pump up the bank accounts.

OPEC sets the oil prices not the Trump administration.

Canada is a non-OPEC nation. 62% of US crude oil imports come from Canada. Almost 100% of US natural gas imports come from Canada.

Was paying $3.50 gal. for Premium, rolled by last Friday was $4.30, $0.80 per gal. bump.  I fill up about once or month maybe longer, vehicle was bought new 2 years ago, less the 3k miles.  I'm not a heavy driver obviously.

For industries like trucking, airlines, boating expect a steep climb in their bottom line to effect the market...all their fuel's origin source is crude oil.

Stop bitching, and if you can short stocks, puts do it.

When those markets correct itself buy, do calls.

I have finally found the time now to take advantage of the volatility the Trump administration has caused since day one, which from what I saw was tariff related based.

Trump very possibly can turn you into a multi-millionaire from a small bank roll but you have to commit yourself to his next move and watch closely. Keep some working capital parked in a brokerage account or a mm account / investment attached.

Love him, hate him, who gives a shit - make the best of your family's life and future!  ;D

I believe that in my section of the country(Midwest)we will be up to the $4 range from the pre-war price of  $2.39-2.50.Todays price is around $3.35/.45 IMO it's definitely worth it if this world is a better/safer place to live for my offspring ! I don't like the fact that the rest of the world is getting a  preview on our latest and greatest military assets.

I own a part of 3 horses currently residing in South Florida right now.

Not looking forward to the shipping bills going back up as well as shipping from  track to race during the summer. Unfortunately, it is what it is. If you can’t afford the bills, don’t be in the business.

Living in Maine like I do, you know that our state legislature never met a "tax" it didn't like. LOL!

What do you feel will be the better fairs this coming year in Maine?
Does Fryeburg still go? Windsor fair going this year?

We use to go every year when we had some cheaper horses for the fairs, always loved talking to Soupy & the boys.

That was always a fun trip, tried to win the Bunyan twice but only hit the board one of the times.

Use to go to Bangor, Scarborough, even up to Foxboro & Rockingham Park
Seems like most of it is dead, hard to believe they couldn't run more fairs, they were always packed with people & a great time.

Old home week is my favorite, try to make it every year. Dual citizenship now & spending more time in the US but the border from Maine/NB on the NB side has Woodstock racetrack that's been revived.
They had a tough year last year(rip little angel). So much grieving in such a small, tight nit community as such a tragedy should never occur.

Living in Southern Maine, I love going to the Fryeburg, Cumberland & Topsham Fairs. I've been to them all, but those are my favorites. With Scarborough Downs history, and Bangor and Cumby running very little days, the fairs have been packed to the rafters the past few years. Foods expensive, but the racing is fun to watch. Simulcasting has put a few more bucks into the pools, but there are still a lot of short priced winners. I remember one of my favorite drivers, John Hogan winning tons of races at Foxboro. Great times there.

The fairs in Maine are really awesome, I don't mind spending extra on food for the kids as they love going around getting diff stuff. They deserve it after going to school all year. When they come to the races with me, they always have a good time. I hope they enjoy it like I did when my parents took us as kids.
So thankful they introduced us to Maine that way, was tough to make it there when we were based out of Seattle, always went to the PNE at Hastings racetrack in Van, Calgary stampede(no standardbred racing, they race standardbreds in diff riding shit but the whole event is so crazy. 2 casinos right there, 1 on the grounds and other just outside the gate.
Elbow river casino just put of the gate, great buffet when playing poker there all night. I think it's Midnight they bring out the spread for everyone free of charge.
Don't have to leave when hungry and in a good cash game or tourney.

Definitely getting to Maine this summer, making it a priority
