I always equated Carmine with jockey Angel Cordero Jr. Both seemingly could generate early speed from any horse.

Still not a word in the news, USTA or SC about The Red Man as of now.

If on SM, please post a link.

If Taylor Swift farts you'd know about.

Generations of legends are dying off, no one cares but a few...AI and teeny boppers writing stories.

I find it odd that the USTA has no mention of his passing. Really strange.

I can see if true caught off guard they'd want prepare a much broader story, bio, remembrance, but say that in the hours, days to come that'll be he case.

If this is true, no common sense.

USTA, I have to tell y'all...

Truly one of the greats. In my early days, pre-Meadowlands, when I was playing YR and RR, countless times I loved the guy, and just as many times hated him, LOL. But I always had respect for his talent and ability. Like I said, truly one of the greats.

Like you, I spent my time cashing and tearing up tickets following him at RR. Probably, one of the best driver colonies I ever watched. Insko, Fontaine, Dauplaise, Dokey, Farrington, Gilmour, etc. He was always in the "top ten" in that group. I rode by his incredible estate in Colts Neck NJ about 10 years ago. Just beautiful.

Carmine was a dominant force in Metro NY racing for decades.
although he did a whole bunch of driving for Buddy Regan, I don't recall him getting that many grand circuit drives---was that by his preference?
Deepest sympathies to Eric and the rest of his family.

My favorite Carmine story. He wins a race at Yonkers and in the winners circle they interview him and he is asked if it helped that he had the only Meadow Skipper in the field and without hesitation Carmine responded....not as much as the horse had the only Abbatiello!!  Classic Carmine

Actually, Stan said "the only Albatross in the race". Close enough.

He didn't need to drive on the grand circuit. He made his money at Yonkers and Roosevelt. A very good businessman invested his money didn't piss it away like many of the great other drivers did.

He had sold his farm in Colts Neck quite a while ago.

Anyone who is Canadian and posted a condolence in this thread, has class.  tmbz1

Cannot say the same for your fellow countrymen and horsemen at...

https://standardbredcanada.ca/notices/1-27-26/carmine-abbatiello-passes.html

In knowing so, the right is reserved in future threads to remind those loved ones of prolific Canadian horsemen who pass, and they sure as shit will die, of that reminder there, here.

Hey Dingus who is Ellen. I use to meet Carmine in the diner parking lot and then we would  go to New York. Carmine was a lot of fun to hang out with.
