Title: Matron last night
Post by: Grandstand Handicapper on November 14, 2025, 08:21:55 PM
Not sure if any "fans" here watched it, but they had four Matron stakes last night at Dover.....Bartlet t won two of them, I think five on the night.....and Super Chapter was pretty impressive! Won by open lengths, easy. I'd really like to see what he might come back like next year, but Hanover owns a piece of him, so I am not sure if he's heading off the stud.

Super being tested in a couple weeks if he passes he’s off to stud at Hanover

That's too bad. He kind of looks like he's maturing a bit, coming into his own, etc. I guess Hanover needs another trotting stallion, LOL.

I was going to post about this and just forgot.  That was an unreal mile in that wind.  And he was on cruise control down the lane.  Horse was an absolute monster at Dover!

will Emoticon be 3 yo of year. I say he had a better stretch of wins than Super Chapter despite no shows in the Hambo and BC

Seems like the voters are partial to horses who race mainly in the USA, so I think Super Chapter will get the nod whether it's deserved or not.

Long time discussion and debate. Similar to the talk about Beau Jangles and possibly getting HOTY. It's a cross-border, political, etc., type of discussion. The colt is again # 1 in the polls and while it comes from the USHWA, the Dan Patch Horse of the Year award is very coveted. Will he become the first Dan Patch Horse of the Year winner.....althou gh he never raced in the US. Forget about that, it is rare for any 2yo to get HOTY, and the last one who did also went undefeated in 12 starts as a 2yo! Other than that, I can only remember Niatross and Bret Hanover getting it.

I think there is, or used to be a requirement for HOTY, that the horse races in the US at least twice. Not sure if that still stands. Not taking anything away from some of the other legit contenders, but I think you can make a hell of a case for Beau Jangles. In today's day and age, aside from where the BC is held, many feel the biggest, most prestigious, most important, races are north of the border.

Beau Jangles should be horse of the year period. He has put together an undefeated 2yo season. He won the 2 biggest races for 2yos. He took on all the up and comers from around the country.

Yo Tillie didnt race in the Hambo Oaks and they didnt supplement her to the Futurity and she lost that start to Delaney Hanover...sure only one loss but she missed the 2 of the 3 biggest races of the year

The only true case is Miki and Minnie especially because she beat aged mares going away in her last start. 2 losses and again she skipped KY and that could make a difference

Lexus Kody didnt win the BC so its a nada on him as HOY

How about the 3YO pacing filly race, where Unreasonable won after being interfered with.
