Might finally be time to hang it up. Has noticeably declined over the years, but he just called the racer leader and eventual winner the wrong name the entire race. Or was I just hearing it wrong? Someone watch race 7 replay and give me your thoughts on that race call.
-
I heard the race call but didn't notice. Jack Gallagher the announcer turned 80 last year and has definitely slipped over the years, but he gambles so he can't afford to retire.
-
I've been in De. For 38 years and its always been Jack at Dover. I can't remember when he missed a night in that time.
-
Think he missed one night 10 years ago, can't remember who announced that night but it wasn't Marv Bachrad.
-
One night Marv had to take over because Jacks voice was going and it was a train wreck!
-
Marv announced the one-year Brandywine had a winter meet and it was torture listening.

Big time gambler! You can hear it in his calls when he’s hoping his horse pulls or he’s calling one from the back that isn’t moving forward. ngc3

I second that. I won a race at Brandywine that Marv announced and its torture to listen too!

The horses name was Pretty Lou and he kept saying Pretty Two. No biggie we'll give him a pass.

I don't know how old you are, but before Jack Gallagher, Fat Jack Talley was the announcer at Harrington for a few years, and he also liked to bet. He owned 2 cheap claimers who ran there, one was Tandy's Spitfire, and whenever he called their races he was preoccupied with where his horse was. One time his horse led most of the way until the very end and he was blantantly cheering it on, when it got passed near the wire there was total silence for the next few minutes, he was a very sore loser.
-
Don’t forget Lou Krongold.
-
Krongokd was the backup announcer to Roy Shudt at Brandywine for a few years and the announcer at Dover before Gallagher. I don't recall him ever working at Harrington
-
JACK TALLEY,MATT SPARACINO,and Scott Warren were all announcers at Harrington
-
I know Talley was for sure, Matt is the Assistant GM and I've never heard him announce a race anywhere. Gallagher has been the announcer at Harrington for well over 30 years and Matt is around 40 so when did he announce there.?. I know Scott Warren used to annonce at Rosecroft but don't recall him doing it at Harrington .
-
Yes, Jack Talley was quite the announcer! Very colorful character. I have lots of win tapes of him announcing some of my wins at Harrington. Loved the SPORT and my dad trained a few for him back in the early 70's at Harrington and Georgetown. Big Better!

Agree, never known Matt to announce. Always been management and does the pre-race handicapping. Good guy! tmbz1

Before my time, I've only known Jack Gallagher to call the races at Dover and Harrington.
-
Scott Warren did call the races at Harrington. I have a win tape of him calling. I think it was around 89 or 90. I'd have to replay it to be sure. Jack Talley was gone by then. If Matt ever did, I don't recall. Maybe as a last-minute fill in, maybe.
-
Must have been in between Talley and Gallagher. I know Jack's been at Dover for 38 years.
-
Gallagher does a fine job. Just wish he could put a little more enthusiasm in his calls, but I understand it has to get old after 38 years!
-
He lives in New Castle. My brother used to be his mailman and told me he used to get alot of credit card bills. Speaking of Jack Talley, I was at Harrington one night and Talley was there just betting. He was sitting in one of the boxes in the grandstand and when his horse got nailed at the wire he had a temper tantrum and started kicking around all the chairs in the box.

Well...it happened again in the 1st race.... DSBF ELIMINATIONS..... .called wrong names and even combined some of the names.....managem ent must n o t care or are too busy thinking of other things
-
And what did the mangement say when you called to complain?
-
They said they were waiting for your suggestions
-
I suggest you actually call them and ask them to address your concerns about the announcer. Instead of coming here and acting like a lil bitch!...ewwww he called the wrong name again..Who gives a fuk other than the owners maybe. Other than that just turn off the volume!
-
I see you forgot your medication again. .....bipolar is the diagnosis
-
The first rule you should probably be aware of is that you don’t come for Jack Gallagher. Sure he may call a horse the wrong name but the man is 80 and pretty damn good at his job. Please see how far the complaining gets you 😂😂
-
The entire group before me commenting on his blunders were never reprimanded...... ..now I am in the wrong........oh please forgive me

JW is good but sometimes he over does it.
Talks a little too much at times.

Thanks for your expertise

Question....do you remember a trotter from about the late 9o,s into the early 2000,s named Storemont Northstar
He won a boat load of races on that circuit and retired at 14 years old....asking because i had a piece of him when he raced in Ontario and then sold him.. to a trainer named Bob something, forgot the last name....im pretty sure the horse has passed on by now
-
The trainer's name was Bob Stevenson, his daughter Janet is married to Eddie Davis Jr I'm not positive but think Bob may have passed away fairly recently
-
Bob is a hell of a guy. I hope not. Haven't heard anything that he passed. But I know he was up in age.

In 1997 he was 3, so he would be 31....prolly gone....if its Stormy you are talking about...or are you referring to Bob
-
Yes
-
In Sweden, there are microchips in the horse's saddle pads. Currently, it shows where each horse is during the race. They tested last week, where an AI program called a race. It was actually was not bad. It could be seen in the future here once the kinks are worked out.

Oh gosh, say it ain’t so. JW is accurate, but his pompous nature affects his calls. Till him, never heard an announcer say “ entering the winner’s enclosure”. What is this, Royal Ascot? He has said“ they are on the apex of the turn”. Well, still infinitely better than John Horne from Vernon. Ugh. Ok, will take my meds now.

so a person who is highly intelligent and uses words that most harness fans have problems comprehending makes him pompous?
he is the best harness race caller out there..period.
some tracks don't have a winners circle(like Harrington)so saying the "winners enclosure" is 100% accurate
are you sure you know what "apex" means?
saying "Yimmy" is also accurate
I am sorry that your insecurities make you feel James is pompous

You tell him James!

Thank you, Papillon, after it took the 373 rd post by me to elicit a response such as yours. I feel like I have been officially accepted into the Plop HOF.
-
JWR is an above average announcer. Would love him to take over Delaware circuit.
