Title: Training Equipment
Post by: Dale the Snail on September 06, 2025, 02:46:22 AM
Can anyone recommend a place to get equipment at a decent price?  Used is preferred.

If there is no harness racing classifieds, Facebook marketplace...  ngc3 then find a trainer with a long recent suspension or ban and ask them?

If they don't sell it to you find out who their beard is going to be and let us know.  Thanks!

Good luck.  ;D

Try ebay.
You can buy just about anything there.
Several hundred horse bits.
Racing harness and hopples.
A Little Brown Jug jacket.
Used colors from Cat Manzi.
Used colors and helmet from Norman Shoemaker.
"How To Own Winning Standbred Race Horses" by Paul Siegel.
Paul use to post on "Barn To Wire".
Paul soon found out what happens to people that post under their right name, and left.

Did Ken ever win a race?
As a lawyer, I’m sure he did better winning a case.

He won a handful of races as a driver, mainly when his horse was in an easy spot. It's almost like the other drivers let him win and stayed out of his way. Most of his wins were on the favorite or one of the top 3 choices in the race.

A handful is over a hundred . Right?

He was good for 1 or 2 wins per year tops, mainly at Freehold when he went to the lead and no one got in his way, like they let him win. He may have won a race or two at the old Garden State Park and also at Meadowlands. My guess is he's won less than 50 races in his career. I haven't seen him drive for quite a while which is understandable since he's over 80. He was never a good driver, and the few times he put up a catch driver the horses improved dramatically but were always way overbet and most times still didn't win.

If memory serves, I think Ken Iulo came up with the idea of putting a small rear view mirror on his helmet. Anybody remember that?

It is free and easy to get stats on any driver or trainer that has ever had a fine or suspension.
Just go to the "Rulings and Summary Report" on Pathway.
There is no charge for that report.
It will give you age, address, type of licenses held, lifetime and year to date training and driving stats, and all lifetime fines and  suspensions.

Ken Iulo
DOB  12/22/1942
Lifetime driving wins 108  $754,617

He won a few at YR back in the day, I remember in the YR program he was listed at 200 lbs, is that true?

I've got some nice driving whips, bits and kicking straps available. Wifey says she's tired of them!
