Title: SPA Day XXXIV, Sunday, 8/24/25
Post by: Trigger on August 24, 2025, 12:16:07 AM
SPA weather calls for light rain even if so 0.16" predicted is not impactful so FAST & FIRM is expected.  Mid 70's, light breeze.  First post is at 1:10 pm and a 10 race card there.

I'm only doing the 8th, a 1 1/16 mile turf stake's race.  Also stake's races at  - Monmouth, Woodbine, Ellis and Del Mar.  All forecasted to be nice weather so likely FAST & FIRM too.

Harness Racing - Harrah's Chester (FAST), Tioga (Unknown weather) and Red Mile (FAST) have stakes races in their cards as well.  Mostly 2-3 yo cg / f, pacers and trotters.  Tioga has a strong chance of rain, we'll see tomorrow.

I'm looking at 11 races, however, I will only pull the trigger if something looks solid.  Ongoing cooler, tomorrow is day 20, will it end?, I think so, and on a high note!  :)

Good Luck!  ;D

Just an FYI to the gamblers. Gulfstream and Ellis both have a mandatory pick 6 payout today. Gulfstream starts in race 5, and Ellis starts in race 4. Both are 20 cent wagers. I believe the takeout at Ellis is 15% and Gulfstream is 20% which is ridiculous, but the pool will be over a million dollars

Excellent, A+ info.  tmbz1

As soon as I can string one winner together I'm going for a DD, this is way out of my league!   ngc3

GP p5's are decent too considering.

4/5 sux, but as a barometer, shows you're sharp, in the ballpark, and great stuff follows.

$717.40 back on my first race today with total wagered for the day of $499.30 and $422.30 in live bets in still.  All bets are in for the day.

The cooler losing streak is over!

I'm so angry because I watched the 10 and so badly wanted it to happen and her to win as good news across the board for us both, I'm very sorry JT!

JT, I'm talking to a man in you, whose future while unwritten is certain to be in the stratosphere of payouts for p4's, p5's, p6's.  When I say it is going to be a 6 figure day motivation I ain't talking about all of us, just you lol.

We rip them up and move on, the wins are strong lately, loses ain't catching up, and your 5 figure payouts will be a dime a dozen.

We can't regret what's not ours, but the future damn it is!

Just take a minute, focus on Ellis!

Race 5 Monmouth - I have 74 at double strength with the 8-1 seven horse on top, watch Paco on the 6 who got off the 7 cheated with the 6 to not be there (look at the stretch). The 7 gets into all kinds of trouble and still has enough to win but no time.  That would of been not a $717 payout but like $3-4k!

I looked back at the GP 3rd, tough race to single, maiden claimer.

Interesting news, you omitted every lowest ml favorite at Ellis remaining p6 races, that's interesting, even a 3/5 McPeek horse.  Big potential in payouts if we can move this sucker along!

Hindsight I should of singled the 3 in race 4 and spread 4 deep in race 3.. do ya think they  will give me a mulligan? This is not bitching.. just putting it out into the universe.. 3 early pick 5's.. I went 4 of 5 in all 3..$12,345 worth of payouts.. so close, but yet so far away. Its all good 2 tickets cooking..

Paco might get investigated.

He (Paco on the 6) even said something to Sonny Leon (the 7) while he got blind switched before the turn like are you going to win asshole that was the set up.  It was really unusual for Paco to get off the 7.  Then he's fake whipping the horse before the turn, fixing his glasses twice in the stretch, every fucking thing to be out of the super, they even flashed the 4/5 three horse as Paco was 5th, the whole thing was fixed and I was suspicious going in.

I'm all over the place, but in the black, Tioga 9th was a lose more than win, $26.55 down for the 9th.

Monmouth 8th was a win, 4 exacta box will be a profit

That is kinda what I figured.. to much chalk. That 4 in leg 2 would have raised those #'s at least 5 times.. it's all good profit is profit. What the hell was Frey doing on your 1 at Del-Mar.. I understand dropping to the back but he was 20 lengths behind in a 4 horse race

Going through my daily autopsy's I made a business decision to not bet De-Mar anymore unless it's a big stakes day. The pools are huge so it is enticing, but I never win there. Its either a chalk fest where the payouts suck...or a few bombs come in that I don't see how anybody has. The closing of the other California tracks has diluted their product.

I threw that super bet in at the last minute, but it paid $408.95 with the 1/9 on top, because of my 8, but only $18 exacta payout for a buck.

I had a dream about 20 years ago about a 6783 super come in, track looked like Harrah's small track, I figured what the fuck I only do something stupid like that every once or twice a year.

The rest of the time I do other stupid shit!   ngc3

Gulfstream Park pick 6
2,4,6,8/2,4,5,6/1,5/2/1,3,4,5,7/3,7,8
$96 bucks.

$715 total investment.. no problem..all I gotta do is hit a couple pick 6's 73cv.2
I love it when a plan comes together
$715 bet
$4,038 won
Nice tidy profit of $3,323
Not to mention three pick 5's where I had 4 of 5 that had payouts over 12 grand that could have turned a GREAT day to epic status. I think from now on I should just wager on
"Handicapping while Hungover Sunday" Hell maybe I could quit my job ngc3.. Kidding of course  ;D

Hungover always works for U, I don't think I'd ever say that to anyone ever again! ngc3 and restrained yesterday, hope it was fun, not for me here at day 19, but today you came in both barrels on full auto.   ngc3

That's an interesting alternate future.

Be totally debt free if you're not and put a half mil in the bank from this shit and it will be something definitely to mull over.

As is, you're keeping it in control, you don't really chase, you have a serious vengeance behind those 4/5's that's for sure, some high octane handicapping brain fuel!

I think the NC trip and the LBJ looks pretty well flush with beans!   ;D

You are correct.. no virtual stable for me.. and I am NOT knocking them, but for me it is unnecessary. I got a memory like an elephant, which is surprising considering all of the fermented hops, paint fumes and bong resin over the years  ngc3 In all seriousness I am an old school player. Look at the program, watch a few replays and go with my first instinct. I learned a ton from my Dad RIP.. he was a great handicapper. I think when my parents taught me to read, it was with a racing form. Before I was married, I was a total rail bird, at the track damn near every night. I would watch and wager Scioto's live card, and then go into the clubhouse and bet on all the tracks they simulcast until the wee hours of the night. I certainly do better now with more experience.

The rest of the time I do other stupid shit!   ngc3
On a rare occasion if I see a superfecta that is my Dad's or wife's last 4 on there Social security #...and I think it has any kind of chance I will box or key those 4 numbers. Unfortunately I can't play my own because it has a duplicate number  ;D

Your very first words were Pick 3 ngc3 and the family went wild and then they said wtf did he say?   ngc3.  My grandfather was my conduit to racing too, sad, he was my favorite person and a real studier, newspaper clippings and all, sorry man, your Dad is proud of his boy, probably hanging with my grandfather too!

I have a solid memory, photogenic too when it comes to somethings, but all the elephants won't tell you the date, time, racetrack, race, horse # and odds when they're going to run on this planet. The alternate is you scan over every t-bred and harness race that day first, and that's just too much for me.

You have to delete horses from it too, they almost never last.

I think the NC trip and the LBJ looks pretty well flush with beans!   ;D
I have learned over the years to never chase losses. My wife and I used to go to Vegas twice a year for years and years..before there were casinos and racinos in Ohio. We've been there at least 20 times, but haven't gone there in 10 years. No need with casinos and racinos here now. We actually ended up winning alot of money there over those years. Mostly on baccarat and black jack. But I learned the hard way about chasing.. sometimes in life ya gotta get knocked down and dust yourself off, learn lessons the hard way, and come back better then ever And yes I do have vengeance for those near misses.. that is human nature. If it's just a few hundred bucks, no biggy. When it's over 4 figures that is a tough pill to swallow

I used to do poker and horses, Bally's in AC and Wynn in LV was the main one, but I lost my stamina for poker.

Now I'd do food and shows, and drinks!   ngc3

But it doesn't interest me either anymore, and I'm surrounded by that shit here too.

I think you and your wife are gambling savants, no one wins that often in Vegas, big score yeh, but something is going on with you two.  Gambling science might need her brain too!  ngc3

We're doing a study!   ;D

She is an excellent black jack player. Not so much with Baccarat or the ponies. Bally's is where we stayed in Vegas.. it is now the Horseshoe. Excellent location. You could walk to everything. Right across the street from Bellagio. I kept track of all our trips there, and if memory serves we ended up roughly 15 to 20 grand on the positive. We definitely had some losing trips, but way more winning ones. We would go in May and September and stay for a week. Everyone would always say to us how can you go there for a week? We had a phenomenal casino host. Room and meals never cost us a dime. Lots of good stories. Way to much to type lol

Thanks bello!! and Trigger finally popped the cherry on his losing streak. That pick 6 I hit at Ellis was epic. Gulfstream low payout.. but still nice to hit. The early Pick 5 at the SPA was a bummer.. it paid 9 grand... my single got 4th in leg 4... but the Ellis Pick 6 made it an OUTSTANDING day. I hope you had a great day with the grandkids.. that is priceless tmbz1

Always a great time. I have three nearby ( 2 Irish Twin babies a year apart) and their 7 year old brother who will be playing Soccer every Sunday, So guess where I will be every Sunday afternoon.

I also have 2 in Ga and 2 in NY. All under 9 years old.

That's awesome bello.. cherish those times..and I know you will. My wife and I could not have children, in fact we lost 3.. all a long time ago. The last child was our daughter,  a stillborn in 2007.Not only does that suck.. I know total understatement.. but no kids = no grandkids. Don't be sad for me because I will see them all one day. Anyway I can tell by all of your posts that you are a proud Grandpa.. Relish in it my friend.

Thanks Pap I appreciate it. I told Trigger I wish I could give Sophie Doyle a big wet sloppy kiss and that my wife would not mind after seeing the payout. She came through as a single in the last leg.. lots of near misses as well, but a GREAT day indeed

No bets for me today.. it's not a Handicapping while hungover Sunday. In all seriousness I have done great the last few Sundays and then proceeded to piss some of my winnings away on Monday and Tuesday. Not happening this week. This morning's daily autopsy led me to that conclusion. One last point. I really fucked up yesterday... I know what you are thinking, "how" after winning that much money. As Trigger has suggested to me in the past and sometimes I do and sometimes not.. back up my bets...I cannot believe I didn't have the pick 5 at Ellis as well as the pick 6. It would have been a $94.50 wager and it paid over $2,800. Total screw up on my part. Lesson learned. Still a GREAT day, but man that was dumb. Good Luck to everyone today!!

Smart play, not playing, there is your memory like an elephant doing roi.

We all know our own answers JT, being cognizant of that...

We rewind back to then, the budget going in is crucial, just like money out and being content and or as planned and or not over exposed, the single reason people lose after winning (when do I stop?).  In my case the last 3 weeks, after the failure some chasing instead of stopping and really regrouping.  You're a very good planner at the same time we'd all be thinking 0/3, but 4/5 so I'm close, how much more exposure, and double banging (P5 & P6) it is a big $ commitment.  One of the reasons I try to avoid multi-leg bets is that I'm usually stringing along races I normally wouldn't wager on, and I feel pressured to bet the race itself too.  You have very good discipline there a shit ton saved on ex, tri sup...

Either way a reminder for next time, the budget.

Predicting an outcome, running scenarios, finalizing those decisions is pushing the brain past our normal capabilities of memorized to the unknown, almost to if not the psychic.  Back to memory, I still love and utilize notebooks, pens, highlighters.

Time, like Vito Corleone said to Michael and me to you, "just wasn't enough time JT, wasn't enough time."

Lastly, you sound like a winner, not what I won, how didn't I capitalize if that was the case, what should my thoughts and possibly actions in the future should be.

Now we're moving to the stratosphere of where the pros and gods playing and succeeding in - all walks of life, business, and sports, and these practice, therapeutic review / learning sessions get us ready for what comes next.
