I didn't get down to the Hambo this year, but a buddy of mine did go. Outside of the miserable traffic in northern New Jersey, he is said it was a pretty good crowd. Articles I read said that about 18,000 attended. I wish they got the crowd every racing night.

I remember long ago they did get a crowd like that regularly. The place was so packed you had trouble finding a seat on any level of that old big grandstand.

I go every year and was quite surprised with the attendance. Personally I thought it would be much more seeing it was the 100th anniversary. You could walk around with out no problem lines weren’t long. I have seen crowds where you were constantly walking into people and lines for concessions or betting were long

well if they did have 18,000 people as announced than perhaps they just did a very good job managing them
'if lines were not long than perhaps they had enough betting outlets/cashiers, enough food and beverage stands etc

My girlfriend, now my wife were there opening night in 1976. I think they had over 40,000 people there. Lines were really long. Had to bet 10 minutes before post. LOL!
