Title: Monticello race 1 Bartlett inside 3 pylons and Burkes horse stays up
Post by: The Unstable on July 07, 2025, 03:43:51 PM
Can someone explain to me how Ai race 1 today stayed up.  Looked clearly inside 3 pylons last turn and was even charted inside pylons.  I thought inside 3 pylons was an automatic DQ.  What am I missing?

certain tracks it must be three consecutive pylons

not sure about how Monticello handles these situations

Maybe I can offer up something: Because it's Bartlett and Burke the horse stays up. If that happen to John Q Nobody and trained and driven by two also rans, he's come down in a nano-second. Hope that helps

no disagreeing here

it looked like more than three pylons he went inside--but it was tough to see for me watching the replay on my phone

I looked it up. USTA Rule 18.19

If a horse while on stride, or any part of the horse’s sulky, goes inside 3 or more consecutive pylons, the offending horse should be placed last.

This horse IMO was clearly inside 2 pylons the first one (which makes 3)he may have clipped on the inside of it. Is that good enough to stay up?

Clear violation and no you're not paranoid, any 'non name' connections would have come down. Blatant.
Reminds me of a fair race I saw recently. They had no pylons and the wheels were down in the grass.  ngc3

He was inside 3 pylons, and should have been taken down. But judging these races has become more art and less rules.

Inside all 3 pylons consecutively.

The first pylon he touched while inside.

Some track jurisdictions have a lapped on rule too, where merely being inside 2,3 pylons is not an advantage nor a dis-qualifier unless lapped on too.

He was lapped on by the #1, a clear advantage he gained.

How much did the judges and or their beards have bet down on Bartlett in that race?     ngc3

The video I watched ended at 10m 21s with the INQUIRY still up, anyone catch what was said live, beyond the typical "no change"?

18.19 clearly says inside 2 pylons and lapped on has to be placed behind lapped on horse.

No change and nothing else is said.
If you would have gotten a change, Howard Oil’s explanation would have sounded similar to the way Weirwolf writes. Shit for brains.

I watched the replay again. 100 percent inside 2 pylons and lapped on.  By rule book automatic DQ.  I would say he went in 3 pylons but he did very mildly brush the inside of one. Not good.

Was doing Monti by simulcast at the track, getting hammered, many years ago.

Finally hit a number, was an accident but most recovered, like 6 of the 8.  I'm looking at like $2k payoff...and he says the worst 2 words ever after about 45 min, "No Contest"!   ngc3
