Horrible!
-
Something similar to this happened at a county fair track a few years ago in Ohio, I think.
Starting gate struck a child in the front row of the stands. So sad.
-
This is terrible and preventable, unless the child ran onto the track.
The same thing happened last year in the United States.
There can't be another one.
If I can put a guidewire in a warehouse to drive a forklift between product locations, a track can put in some kind of electronic guidance that doesn't allow the starting car to get off the safe track placement.
The gates don't get wider, so control the car, you eliminate the risk of someone being hit by the gate if people stay where they should.

Two years ago in Illinois, a 5 year old little girl was struck by the starting gate and tragically also passed away.
This is such a tragedy and so very sad for the poor child's family. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Honest to actual fuck how does this keep happening? Reduce the width of the wings, put up fencing, geez there is almost nobody actually at the races and they keep killing kids!
-
A three year old boy isn't tall enough to be struck by the wings unless held by an adult. Horrible. What actually happened?
-
Years ago a starting gate wacked 5-6 people standing at the fence
-
And they kept racing? THIS PLACE MUST BE A SHITHOLE..SHAME ON YOU

Terrible. Preventable yes, but still just a horrific accident at the end of the day. I think this begs the question why maritime racing still operates without ambulances on site. Every other track I can think of with the exception of a few fair tracks have ambulances on site. This may not have changed the outcome but an immediate response from trained medical personnel would be much more comforting to the horrified bystanders. I think of the girl In cape breton getting trampled last year, the numerous spills we see every year, what is holding the maritime tracks back? Make it make sense.

A child died and they kept the races going? How is this ok? It blows my mind how the races were not canceled immediately. The track should be shut down. It should have been gone years ago.

And sadly the young girl was somewhere she should over never been allowed to be. Unfortunately the adult that was supposed to be watching her was busy doing something else
