What is going on the past 3 weeks where handles per race are not approaching even $100,000? Did the DRAG TIME start being enforced and did the CAW betting change to be shut at 2 minutes prior to a race?
-
Last night, they handled around $1.7. I've never seen it this low. The quality of horses is getting poorer and poorer. There were 4 races last night that handled LESS than $75,000. There was one race with $61,000 bet. Monticello will handle more in a race. I;ll assume it has to do with CAW wagering. Most people are unaware of how much a track's handle is by CAW. Its huge
I will say this, THERE IS NO WAY THAT THEIR MANAGEMENT WILL LET THIS CONTINUE. If they have been losing all along , they are losing much larger amounts now.
Interested to see how this plays out.

again, the CAW action stopping at 2 minutes till post is only for the WPS pools
they are still allowed to bet after the bell on verticals and horizontals
sure the CAW being cut off is a major part of it
anyone still questioning that CAW accounts for at least 50% of M1 and Mohawks handle?

I believe this decision was a bad one. They think that by reducing drag, eventually more people will come to the building and stay through the entire card creating more in house handle. I don't think that will ever compensate for the loss of the action junkie off site players betting through the drag.
The product has so many other issues. Fovusing on drag should be so far down on the list. Just my opinion

People only have so much they're going to bet in a given race so starting 5 to 7 minutes past post time doesn't come into play for them. If the bettors know you're starting on time, they'll adjust and bet earlier. The drag is unnecessary

There is plenty of data that says otherwise

I say bring back the drag and have Drag Queens holding number cards like round cards in boxing doing the live countdown since the Drag Queen shows draw more than the races. ngc3 Can you see it? The "Drag" returns....

If the data came from Settlemoir it's alot of BS just to justify the drag.

No not settlemoir. There may be 1 track in the country where drag isn't necessary and it's not a harness track. It's saratoga thoroughbreds. Other than that you won't find anyone anywhere who thinks drag isn't significant. If you think gamblers will adjust when will that happen? They are down about 33% since the change. When is that million or so coming back? They've already plastered post time all over the feed. No matter what they are going to lose the action players without the drag to signals that do drag.
-
You make some valid points but when Meadowlands was in its heyday handling 4 million a night on track the races always started on time. What's happened with the drag is bettors know that post time is a joke and wait longer and longer to bet because they know they won't be shut out. Btw, Keeneland is another track that starts on time with great handles. I don't buy the handle is down 33% solely because the drag was eliminated. The CAW's may have stopped making win bets since they're locked out 2 minutes before post time. I rarely bet Meadowlands anyway except when they have the big stake races, so whether they start on time or 7 minutes late really doesn't affect me.

In the heyday was there an internet? Vastly different industry today from when they handles 4m on track. Yes. Agree with Keeneland. KEE and SAR are absolutely different animals from M1. Not comparable in any way.
They were down about 33% before they locked the caws out of the win pool.
Guessing 80% + of their total handle is off site via awds. A significant portion of the 80% are action junkies betting the next race with 0 MTP on their phone. Those are the people contributing to the 33% dip

Why not try it. If it would increase attendance and interest, it could work. It would definitely draw viewers. Maybe Gary DiLeo and Shades could participate as well as Todd Schrop.

Settlemoir, I'm sure would be happy to help 'PREP' the contestants. tmbz1

Of course there wasn't internet in their heyday, people went to the track instead and bet with both hands because the racing product was so good. There are other reasons why the handle is down so much, and things are only going to get worse. In their heyday, we used to drive down to Atlantic City Racecourse because you were able to bet their races there and they always had a good crowd especially on Saturday night. I know some of those people who bet almost every race at every track without a program just for the action, most of them have gone broke.

Im just not seeing the comparison. We agree no internet back then it's nearly all internet now. Drag is all about today's game with off track betting via the internet. Everyone in the country sees the next race going off. This wasn't a part of anything when they were handling 4mm and everyone was at the track

Meadowlands has raved about their $3 million handle on Saturday night. Last night, with all the top drivers there, they barely hit $2 million, A MILLION DOLLAR decrease. a 33% drop
THERE IS NO WAY THAT MANAGEMENT WILL LET THIS CONTINUE UNLESS GURAL HAS OTHER PLANS.
