Is the Management of Monticello just dumb? Do they realize when you cancel your rearranging (horses above all) trainers, owners and grooms lives?
Just close the place down until the track is repaired. It’s simple stop canceling!!!! Can’t believe how stupid you people are.
-
Serious question from a "non-horse person".....would the horses stabled there be getting any jogs in, maybe on the training track they have above?
I am guessing after a few days rest initially when all of the cancelled programs started, they must need to be jogging somewhere-somehow by now.
-
The problem is obviously a big one It's going to take time and money to get this fixed. Some People must have an idea of what needs to be done and the timeframe. If it's a week to fix, state it. if its's a month to fix it, State it. At least give people a time frame to make plans.
A previous question was asked. Is the track usable at all? Can they train on it? Can they jog on it? If the answer is no to these questions. it's going to take time to get the horses back in racing shape.

I saw horses jogging on it when I drove past.

In a normal world and business, this would be standard. Obviously this is not a normal world or business and it is far too much to ask for. It is deplorable that track ownership/management simply goes radio silent.

Eric is a hell of a nice guy, but unfortunately, he’s just a puppet.
The management there should be dismissed immediately.

Listen, I get this track is on life support and is viewed as a $hithole. We all get it. Even with the sport and industry where it is, this $hithole was still showing up. For how long I don't know. I remember seeing data that showed in 2024, daytime racing, they outhandled Freehold and the Meadows (I think in the winter). But they trail in purse money offered!
Personally, while controversial, and heavily opposed, I think they would do better with less racing dates, perhaps a few more races on certain cards, but less racing dates and less races. Might be a bumpy road, and it is completely opposite of what track management wants, but what else is new, LOL. They are mandated annually for the # of race days, but that is not irrevocable moving forward. Alan Schwartz talked about this. Horsemen find this a tough pill to swallow also. But, more race dates, lower purses. They'll gag on less dates, LOL. I get it.
I am sure Resorts World/Catskills is not happy about putting money into purses. Bottom line, the track is losing money. You can't make that up on volume, LOL. Whatever happened with that arbitration case? I remember hearing Schwartz say something along the lines that if they won the arbitration, it could double the purses. I don't know for sure, but one could only hope.

Less race dates and higher purses will put the mom and pops out of business. Of course, you don't consider or give a shit about them.

Another great post! When something doesn’t work, it’s time to change the same applies to the management at Monticello. As far as the horsemen are concerned, it just keeps getting worse.

Shocking and they keep saying it’s a day by day decision. Do you know if they are trying to fix the problem ?

Should be ready to go on Monday.

I would assume they keep drawing cards because the track has too. Here in PA the tracks have to make and attempt at racing, such has drawing the card. Now if a situation arises that they can’t race , well the track did there part by drawing. But I will say this if such a case happen here at The Meadows that the track was un race able and ownership didn’t get it fixed with in a timely manner, 3 weeks is not a timely manner, thehorse rep would be on the phone to Harrisburg advising them that no attempt by the track was being made to race.
Northfield had the same situation a few weeks ago and the track was fixed in 3 days.

New management please!

Why are you singling out Eric? I've never heard complaints about him .
continuing to draw may be his way of trying to get these horses raced?

Continuing the draw is no way to treat horses or Horsemen! Eric is a great guy but he just does what he’s told to do by Management.

Then what would replacing Eric do?

My couple of Toronto harness early aft comrades eat that Monti Mertons shit up. I'm in too.,though Meadows, and certain Sara spots do too.
The one to avoid. Poc-in-the- eye Downs.
Mid card today Simon Allard springing ridiculous longshot onto the unsuspecting public. Could only say puh-leese after witnessing that Gawd Awful double digit spectacle.
jctoronto
Hope Monticello no worse for wear soon.

I never said to replace Eric I said replace the Management.
-
Whatever management is in place-----and yes, a better job could be done-----in the end it doesn't matter. You can only do so much with what's left there.

Been hearing that too and that it was made clear to the horsemen to keep their mouths shut. Notice anything on social media like Facebook? Nobody talking, no complaining, no pictures. Monticello Raceway turned off comments on their Facebook page.
