I see they cancelled today. What's the deal with this track?
-
its garbage the whole place is garbage. it needs shut down. it makes no money.
-
Cancelled again today - they have only raced 3 days in the last two-plus weeks due to the track condition. Got to feel for those there trying to make a living. Few of those horses can
jump to another track to pick up a check.
-
MAYBE ITS TIME. JUST SHUTTER DOWN
-
Pocono, Tioga, Saratoga are all in close proximity. Monti was my track, but it is time to close it.
-
All things aside, as part of what needs to happen in the sport and industry, Monticello is simply one of the tracks that should close.
-
The crazy thing is how well they handle there (relatively speaking of course). Per race they handle more than Vernon, Tioga and Buffalo/Batavia combined....also they often outhandle Yonkers.
-
RAN OUT OF STONEDUST.
-
Reading the press release on the USTA site.
Using comments
“Once again “. And “Hopefully “

Years ago, they had an opportunity to put hot water pipes under the track surface and they passed.
-
They also had the opportunity to put a DOME on the track with heat and AC for total comfort, and it missed passing by one vote.

Cancelled again today (Wednesday, 3/12). May as well call off Thursday as well and see if you can get the track put together by next week. On a positive note, the horses are getting some well-deserved rest!!!
-
They need a high-level track builder/conditioner to get the track surface right. This problem can be long term if not fixed properly.
-
Lock down your goods, the carnies will need some cash with no racing
-
I think I saw Howard Oil selling Girl Scout cookies outside of Tilly’s. He can make some money and spend time with his date.

Today's Monti update......"Once again, due to track conditions Monticello Raceway has cancelled live racing on Thursday (March 13)."
We will resume racing once the track conditions allow - sometime by mid-summer. ngc3
(sorry, I couldn't help myself..... 8)

Maybe this is the beginning of the end.
So, can Empire Resorts simply close the track? I remember reading something when the casino finally opened and within a year or so they closed the slots part of the track. The slots part of the track fell under the state regulation dealing with slots at racetracks-----but that's gone, so now what? Can they simply close the track?

They would have to shut down the Newburgh casino.

What does that contract look like?
How many cards does Monticello need to run?
Any link to details appreciated.
-
At the very least the horses get some rest! Those poor animals get abused year round. The only time they get a break is to break down or die.

Ok, they just won't get fed.
-
This was a huge financial burden to the horsemen. Curious if they bump purses to make up for the purse money they didn't spend.

That costs money. They won’t spend anything on that place. When they got their first slot machine, the barns that you could see from 17B were painted in the front. The back and all of the others didn’t get anything.

Between the lost revenue and man power expense to keep the track race worthy in the winter, the pipes would have paid for themselves. Leon Greenberg said no and so Monticello continued to close every Labor Day and didn't open until the spring. Syracuse had the hot water pipes under their mile track and it worked well.
-
They will race again (one day)
-
Racing today!
-
Looks like they are going some extra distance as the pylons are moved pretty far out.
