Title: Larry Stalbaum
Post by: Birdfantammy on March 02, 2025, 12:53:23 PM
Did he give up driving?

He sure had his horse in the 1st doped and ready to go lol.

Beckwith Stiffs then wins the next then goes off stride in the 3rd at the start.  gotta love it

The mile went 157 last half 59. 4 last quarter 31 don’t seem too doped up to me

He needs to go help his kids’ stable in Cali!  Their results indicate they don’t know which end the feed goes in!   ngc3

I don't follow up or Saratoga, but he's a known commodity. Been around a long time. When I thought of him, first thing that came to mind was that he always (used to) own virtually everything in the barn (or a major piece of every horse). Have no idea if that's still the case. He also (used to) shoe his own horses. I don't know if he still does. I thought he's driving less these days, but I don't know. After a bad accident a few years ago he seemed to drive less frequently.

He cut back driving since he broke a leg in an accident I think less than a year ago.

That accident he had last year really jacked him up and the impression i get is that his driving days are behind him. There's nothing quite like laying in bed with your legs facing different directions to take the enjoyment out of sitting behind one

driving is a young mans game
older you get the slower reaction time you have
and as i am sure he has noticed you don't heel well after an accident/injury
realistically once you get to 50 years old just train or do something else

Right, now I kind of remember. He had another bad one a few years ago too, right? Back injury/injuries I think.

As far as the fundraiser(s) or whatever it was----seriously, would you feel comfortable giving monies to a cause that Mike was directly involved with and/or had control over? I for one would not give to any money to a fundraising effort where Mike was directly "involved"-----other than simply calling people's attention to a fundraiser. If Mike had the ability to touch or control the money, had a say in how the money was being allocated, spent, etc., or anything like that, I would not give a dime. It is simply a matter of credibility, or in this case, lack of. Look at the guy's history, stature, reputation, etc. I would give money directly to the person in need, no questions asked.

I think everyone realized it was a joke. It is simply reflective of Mike's reputation and disease----which he of course does not get. It's delusional. Nothing more. Listen, he believes he has stature in the industry. He believed he actually had a role "representing" the Freehold horsemen. Countless meetings, discussions with the State, all that was happening----and he wasn't included, invited to one meeting, or had any involvement. However, he sends some emails, makes some statements, preaches, rants and raves----and he then lives in a reality that he was not only involved, but was representing the horsemen. Is this not sick? Is this not sad? If you think it's not, then good luck with that.

What is sick is that he lives rent free in your mind. For such an insignificant person, he sure gets a lot of attention from folks here.

Hey, if that's what you think, so be it. The way I see it, he brings that attention to himself. For a long time I said let him be like the child who throws the temper-tantrum. Just ignore him. But when I see a sensitive issue, or he attacks me, that I will speak to. Not the way he does, but I will speak to it.
