a race you won as an owner/trainer/driver/groom?
My 2 announcers to call wins for me were:
Mike Sardella
Joe Ricci
Most intriguing call:
Larry Lederman (RIP)
Could have done better:
Ken Warkentin
-
Frank Salive
Gabe Prewett
-
Greg young
-
Carl Becker at The IL. State Fair!
(several times over several years)!
-
Sadly for me 5 of my 6 wins as an owner came with Roger Houston calling. So I'll have to give it to Jeff Zidek for filling in during a bad snowstorm and my horse winning by the length of the stretch.
-
Sam Mckee Meds & Lexington and Carl Becker at Lexington. And a mention to John Bothe. Zoooming Bye
-
I know who the most boring announcer is that's right here in Ohio.
-
Kurt Becker was on the call of my first winning drive at the Altamont fair in IL.
My First win in NJ Larry Lederman gave me his " if it was a fight they'd stop it" call.
My first Meds win Sam was on the call.
Ken Warkentin gave me my probably favorite call as my then horse Andwin Hanover won parked the mile at Freehold, he said "And win Hanover just will not go away"...all terrific memories.

Sorry to make this post and see your comment!
What was it like winning by the length of the stretch?
My biggest victory was 6+ at the meadowlands.
My homebred won by 12 at Rosecroft when I didn’t own him.

What does everyone think of the cal expo guy?
Hes not terrible. Seems to be a very intelligent guy gives a very detailed opinion on picks.
-
Billy Perkins must have had a few cocktails prior to the races at Rosecroft, as we looped the field three deep around the last turn and drew off at 64 to 1
Perkins says 'Bombs Away, shut the door, turn out the lights'.......I was laughing my ass off.
At Ocean Downs Billy had silent ownership in a horse that could stop on a dime....they did some vet work and 'treated him'.....Perkins mentioned that his horse was not going to stop that night. Race goes off, he is up 5 at the half, 3 at the ocean turn for home and his race call was at a fevered pitch...like death and taxes the horse quit and his call ended with..'the son of a bitch stopped again'....true story

I think Scott is a great and accurate race caller. Hopefully he calls my filly under the wire first tomorrow night for her maiden win.

We were 4-5 at the final flash of the odds so I figured he'd win but to win by around 10 in the snow was the coolest thing. Only regret was not betting him on top of everyone in an exacta since a 60-1 got up for second at the wire.

Scott is ok as a racecaller--he does Cumberland also
as far as his handicapping--he is a lifetime heavy gambler--so at least he has experience in providing insights on a race that most of us may not have thought of

Was Jim Moran taught by Max Robinson who called races at Batavia in the 70’s and 80’s?? The ‘infamous’ “here they are@ at the finish of the race was the same as Max.

Jim’s uncle Bud Hebert was his mentor and former announcer at Vernon. Here they are originated with Roy Shudt at Brandywine and Hollywood Park.

Early 80’s.

The Great Dave Johnson!

Jack E Lee
-
Jack Me Hoff.
-
Talks WAY TOO MUCH.
-
Kleinhans is excellent at oak grove.
-
He's good because he just calls the races and doesn't make it about himself like Jack E Lee used to do. Larry Lederman was very good but felt the need to also be a comedian during the race with his jokes and knack of giving baseball scores.

Tony Salvaro and Joe Mazzone
Ehrlich is excellent tmbz1
