Yonkers, 9 races, under $400,000. Dover Downs, 15 races, around $430,000. Harrahs Philly, 13 races, around $420,000. Monticello, 10 races, over $600,000! Monticello holds its own every day it races! Of course, the Meadowlands was again king with over $1.2 million in 10 races.

Meadowlands is always going to handle the most, but forget the handle, the racing product was pathetic! When Meadowlands handle is 1.2 million, they lose money after paying purses. Their host fees are between 4% and 5%, which at best on a 1.2 million handle is $60,000. They paid out $90,000 in purses, so crybaby Gural lost money!

the industry should do a retrospective look at itself
why does it have so few quality aged horses to race in the winter
industry needs to schedule more quality series for aged pacers and trotters
maybe promote them over the winter so players get to know them
then trainers could adjust the schedules to ensure those horses are available in the winter months
yonkers did a few recently but they get overshadowed by the end of year grand circuit, i think one of the finals is yet to be raced, but its yonkers
if the big m could resurrect some of their series i think they would do well

Unfortunately too many horses are raced out by the time they get to late DEC or JAN. Too many opportunities in OHIO , Kentucky, New York and Pocono and Philly run late into fall.
You are right, in years past the Presidential, Four Leaf Clover, Aquarius series had great up and coming stars developing to top open pacers (for the era) similar to WO Philly,Pocono,Dover types as well as nw2 series for late bloomers that trainers could spot them right and avoid the big dawgs. Now the Kindergarten runs about 4 legs and a final and doesn'tgive much of a chance for a freshening up for lightly raced colts or fillies.
