This card is disgusting. The trackmaster 68 or less has the worst lines as a whole for a group I've ever seen
-
very curious how the bettor reacts to these fields, The card is the cheapest I have every seen.Maybe its a Freehold North makeup day.
-
Freehold is closing forever In less than 3 weeks . Get use to see freehold move North .
-
The handle maybe higher.
-
This may be the worst card ever at the Big M. Interesting drivers too.
-
while looking at thursdays past performances, i glanced at the leading trainer and driver standings.
Am I living inj the twilight zone?
Look at the names

Will they change the name of the meet to Freehold North??

It should be very entertaining to watch as only a handful of the drivers have raced against each other; however, it will be very difficult to invest any serious money at the windows!

Except for a few, alot of the drivers have limited experience driving on a 1-mile track, with most coming from 1/2 mile tracks. Drivers who are used to parking the field will find out the hard way the strategy doesn't work up there, nor does moving prematurely.

I'm very interested in how much they handle per race. If it's okay, with these cheaper horses and cheaper purses, Gural may have found the golden remedy so he can stop losing money. The handle may be good for the form on these horses is so inconsistent and the drivers have no real history there. There could be some big payoffs. I wonder if the full broadcast team will be there too. Cutting expenses and bringing in added revenue just may solve his problem.

What are you guys talking about? Almost 1 year ago to the day they raced on a Thursday night with 10 races and the handle was $1,192,675. I suspect a similar amount tonight but breaking $1 million with such horses over 10 races is better than would be expected as Freehold NEVER came close to HALF this total with their daytime races.

Yes, the 2 or 3 days per year of Thursday racing has always been very low handle........... . the past few years of Thursdays have been $1.2 to $1.5million.
With the cheap horses........... . also most don't know about the Thursday nights, I for one had forgot, until I saw this thread.

I added my race replay notes for all 10 races for Thursdays card at insideharness.com here is the 1st race...
Race Replay Notes Race#1
PP-1 Donatello Hanover
In from Pocono, sat 2nd last, snuck up the rail, raced ok but was passed in the stretch after a very nice ground saving trip
PP-2 Sir Jesse
In from Vernon downs off a win in lower class, left hard and was parked a bit but made the front, wire to wire trotted home well
PP-3 Snowman Hanover
a couple whip taps to leave, but ended up dropping down to 6th at 1/4, had a little trot in the lane and was being urged just to get 5th
PP-4 Bacardi
In from Freehold, parked 3 wide 1st turn, made the front by the 1/4, but had to let one go so sat pocket, gapped the pocket and trotted even in the stretch
PP-5 Crazycat
10 hole in last, just given the obligatory 10 hole tour... you can toss this race.
PP-6 Prescott
In from Plainridge off a win, eased off the gate to sit 4th, pulled at the perfect time and had lots in the tank to pull away and win easy
PP-7 Kobe B
In from Philly from the 8 hole he fired and was parked 3 wide first turn and 2nd turn, kept trotting in the stretch and actually was 2nd... raced a HUGE trip.
PP-8 Candy Bomber
In from Pocono, broke leaving and dropped back to last, saved ground and MAY have not had room on the rail... might be a longshot sleeper in here!!!
PP-9 Alfaromeo
In from Philly, eased off the gate to sit 5th, pulled early and was 1st over and went off stride - no chance after the break - HAD TROT late though

The Thursday (Dec. 5) card will offer 10 races, so everyone will get to go home a little earlier than usual, but the decreased number of races hasn’t decreased field sizes, as the average number of horses per race is 9.4.
“We’ll still be offering our usual Friday and Saturday programs,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “At this time of year, the Thursday cards afford those who are busy with holiday obligations on the weekend to come out and enjoy a night at the races.”

Why are they so concerned with getting everyone home earlier? Is this not a business? Northfield races 16 during the week

Jason Settlemoir is nothing but a tool and lapdog for Gural. He's concerned over the 100 fans who are there strictly for the racing, that's laughable. The majority of people there are in the sportsbook.

No inquiry in race 8. Did the judge know there was racing tonight? Something very very wrong here
