Still doesn’t tell me why they changed it

They used it in that summer football league [USFL?] Decided to use it in NFL.
It's obviously for safety. Eliminating the players from running up and getting
momentum built up. They have to return it if kicked in designated area but seldom
happens. Getting it at the 30 yd most times.

It's 50-50 if it is eliminated for next year's season. It does take away the excitement of kickoff returns. I'm sure there will be a report at the end of the year comparing the number of injuries that occurred in kickoffs this year to the last few. If it's way less, they will keep it. Good PR for them. If they are so concerned about injuries on kickoffs, have everyone start at the 30 and eliminate the risk—they begin there 88% of the time with the latest stats as of 11/18/24.

The league is trying to protect many young men, with few employment options, from the desperate act to willingly maim themselves to make good money for a few years. Unfortunately, careers in the NFL are short and most will be out of work by their mid 20's and the money will be gone shortly thereafter. Then they are back at the bottom of the pile, nursing life long aches and pains at best, life long brain trauma and death at worst.

NFL needs Colin K. back! Nobody takes a knee anymore, they just do the ymca dance!

I like one thing about the new rule. Most times the receiving team starts at the 30-yard line. Scoring is much easier from the 30 than the 15 or 20 so it seems to let teams behind in the game have a better chance to catch up.
It's good to protect the players but I think they are mentally challenged before head injuries Did you ever hear some of these players talk in interviews? Most of these so-called college level athletes can't even speak proper English.

One hundred percent! I totally agree and it feels great!

While correcting their silly rule changes, they also need to change the onside kick back to what it was before
