Has anyone been to Fraiser Downs in British Columbia?  If   so is it nice?

Yes, I have. It's owned and operated by Great Canadian Entertainment. They are the largest gaming and entertainment company in Canada, with the largest portfolio of gaming, hospitality, etc., properties in Canada. They do it all, soup to nuts, LOL. Frasier Downs (Racetrack and Casino) is part of the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey, BC. You should check out the rest of the fairgrounds. The track and the casino probably takes up about a third of the entire property. Some of the surrounding area(s), Surrey, that part of BC, are very beautiful.

The track itself----used to be Cloverdale Raceway----and in the mid-90's underwent a major renovation and re-branded/renamed Fraser Downs. It's a nice track. They do a very good job there. After the law changed, in the early 2000's they got slot machines. Many experts in the industry are certain that without this, harness racing would have died in British Columbia. It is not the "necessary evil" scenario you have at YR.

If you are going to go for the track alone, don't bother. Unless you are a track collector, and it is on your list.

Improvements were made to the casino. Racing product, handle and apron are subpar

I'm not traveling all the way to Vancouver as you say " just to pinch one off".

When you spoke of going to Nfld and Freehold + Balmoral to do it, distance didn't seem to be a factor.
Just sayin' ;D

I never said I would pinch a loaf at Freehold.  And since I'm not too familiar with Standardbred racing in Canada I won't drop a load there.

 Fraser Downs is in Surrey.BC

Don't go around Surrey though, honestly - it's not worth it.

I'd only go to the track in Surrey & nowhere else.

The runners @ Hastings (actually in Vancouver, right off Hastings St) is a fun little spot. Mario Gutierrez started out there when he came from Mexico

Surrey is ok and so is White Rock, New West and Burnaby all part of the greater Vancouver Area. If you go into the city Hastings Park is good but don't go to far on foot on East Hastings unless you are looking for trouble. Good peeler joints in Vancouver like No 5 Orange. Stanley Park area is also very nice. Kitsilano area is cool to hang out.
If you go out there to have fun and enjoy a beautiful city, you can't lose.
