Does anyone know of a potential rescue plan to keep Freehold racing?

They plan to auction off most of the fixtures there after they shut it down, so I don't see how. It won't be a turn key business after that, the place would need to be totally retooled.

This is a shame. I see the a lawsuit by standardbred owners group. It does not look good.

Done . They also have a study done from a structural engineer on there bridge crossing a highway that supposedly is in immediate repairs. We are flying out east to see some of the properties that will be offered up for auction. The General manager is going to meet with us .

Where exactly is this bridge crossing a highway at Freehold raceway?

Goes over route 9 right after the 1/8th pole.

From the paddock to the track.  Crosses over route 9

Looks like it’s where the horses go over to come on to the track from the upper paddock

I have a lot of family in Central Jersey and enjoyed hitting Freehold whenever we visited. Very small crowds and the place is in disrepair. Although it looks dirty, it really isn't. Bathrooms don't work well, and escalator has been broken a long time.  The "Clubhouse/Restaurant" area has very little food. Better to bring in a bite from the food court at the mall across the street. I know when I saw Niatross race there in September, 1980 (if I remember correctly), the place was packed. Had to park at the mall and walk over. Better days for the once historic track.

Back in the 70's, on Saturdays, Freehold would allow you in the infield and there were betting windows back there.

We are coming out to see all the unique items that will be inventoried for auction . The GM has said any of the upcoming Saturday mornings are available. He mentioned tractors and trucks ect as well of which we have no interest. Tables , chairs we assume from old dining rooms or event rooms from back in the day?

If you mean pre new grandstand most of that stuff went up in flames.

I remember plumbing problems in that 1st floor grandstand bathroom way back when they still had a crowd. Water and maybe pee water would be coming out of there like a stream into that hallway in the grandstand.

I've bought different items when tracks have shut down and had auctions. I'll look, but my guess is that most of the memorabilia has been taken from the place. Maybe there will be some cool signs or something. Sad that it's closing, but necessary.

Yes we traveled out East many years ago for stuff from Roosevelt raceway on Long Island . This place sounds like it’s been ransacked already and stripped of any dignity. What a way to go out . Hopefully this Howard guy is reputable and lets everyone get a look before they catalog and list it all for auction.

Last time I was at Roosevelt Raceway was back in 1974, it was the night Muhammad Ali defeated George Foreman in the famous Rumble in the Jungle.

Question of the day--are the 'fixtures' worth any "real" money?

I have a bunch of stuff from Roosevelt Raceway.

That must be cool. That was such a controversial and heated situation and what happened over time. It was a stacked deck from jump, and as I've long said, money people and brains people will always get the better of horsemen. Always have, always will. Right before the sale, there was some rumor going around that Larry Kadish was going to buy the track. I have no idea if it was true or even if he considered it. Obviously it went bad anyway.

I still have a Roosevelt Raceway hat, LOL.

Kadish brought some lawsuits but apparently, they went nowhere.
I have an orange hat from there and other giveaways from there like orange seat cushions and lots of programs with those coupons for Nathans. 2 for 1 chickabuns.
