The PigM is becoming a joke. Other than a couple really nice cards a year, they put out a horrible product. Between the amateur series and $7500 claimed on weekends, what has this place become?
-
Always has been and will always be the best harness track that exists.
It’s awesome to see that some owners that can only afford to own 7500 claimers get a chance to race at this amazing facility.
The best, Jerry, the best !

Sadly they are still the best. And you are entitled to your opinion on the condition sheet. Shows the overall state of harness racing. They get very little of my money anymore, but that goes for harness in general. Tbreds give you way more bang for your buck! But my heart will always be with harness racing. Yes I am aware of how gay that sounds! tmbz1

M1 brings a warm and fuzzy feeling from the 80s and 90s for a lot of old folks--but two days a week racing with only 6 weeks a year relevant hardly makes them "the best"
-
Look at the driving colony. Especially th MADC and think Settlemoir stamps them approved. Same guy who protected the Jackson's. I'm pretty sure it's about who doesn't drive there so down the road Gural can give guys shit when they come over for just the big money. I repeat. Joe DeFrank is rolling in his grave.
-
I expect they want to know who is going to be there so they can tell trainers.

They are certainly not the best anymore and really I dont know who is. I remember as a teenager and in my twenties Scioto Downs would always simulcast the big races from M1. Except for a few days a year those days are long gone there. Amateur races on almost every card and most purses 10 grand or under. This is how I remember that track as a 21 year old kid drinking an icy cold beer watching this on an old box tv under Scioto's Grandstand.

before simulcasting really existed----the state of NJ had "intra-state" simulcasting
when i first received my drivers license in 1983--i would drive to the Atlantic City race course for M1 simulcasting
after the races-the casinos were only 15 minutes away and i would play craps at The Golden Nugget all night when Steve Wynn was running the show--back then it wasnt gambling 24 hours a day-they closed at 4AM
steak and eggs around 4:15am then i drove home 40 minutes when the sun was just rising
those were the days

JT I thought I had it and I do. The Scioto program with the simulcast races. There were actually
two races. The other was $100k NJ Stake final with Hot Lead. It's marked up [the program] so not
worth shit except to me. ;D
-
Looking thru, I also have one from Aug.28 1993 .There was just one simulcast that night.
$432k Cane from Yonkers.Riyadh 1st [two hole], Presidential Ball 2nd [post nine], Life Sign 3rd [post eleven]
Ready To Rumble 4th [post 7] Riyadh, Ready To Rumble + Presidential Ball coupled. On the Scioto card
was $27k aged Ohio Sire Stakes [Majestic Osborne - Joe Adamsky] + $10k Invite with Shady Daisy [Fout]
Only five horse field with Deadlock [Chip Noble] Cambridge [Purple Jesus] Fun to look at once in a blue moon.

That's awesome.. Deadlock was a great open pacer there. Shady Daisy was great. It's cool you still have those old programs..I have boxes of them as well. Hell we might have been watching on the same old school box tv under the grandstand. LOL. Yeah I remember they put those simulcast pages from M1 in the Scioto program. They would even drag the post at Scioto so everyone could watch M1

Hot Lead--gave George Brennan his first major stakes win and paid $5.60 to win
he raced in one or two of the winter series the M1 had--then won the M1 Pace-defeating Stout(Gelrod)
Hot Lead was trained by Brian Magie

Great memory if you remember the win payout LOL!! I remember Stout very well. You talk about a loaded field in the cane pace in Bitter Truth's post. Holy shit that was a great year for 3 year olds.. Totally loaded.

It was a great year
in the M1 Pace that year--Life Sign was "zooming by" Presidential Ball(as John Bothe would often say)--but Campbell tapped Life Sign with a right hander--forcing him to veer in and lock wheels with Presidential Ball-costing him the win
on Hambletonian Day that same year they had a "meet and greet" with the drivers signing autographs--i asked Campbell if he was going by--he told me he would have won fairly easily- i also asked Moiseyev and he said no doubt he would have lost

Thanks for posting the video.. I had forgotten about that. Life Sign would have gone by without a doubt. Man Riyadh could leave the gate so well. In today's racing manzi would not have hung out nuclear design he would have let him go and then retook the lead.. totally different era.
-
He might have let The Ball or Life Sign go but even today no thx to Nuclear Design ngc3

You are probably right.. I don't know what Fahy was thinking there lol. Fahy was a decent driver but not in same league as Johnny C Jackie MO or the cat man or LaChance.

Mike tell me how is it possible that opening day at the BIG M when JOE DEfRANK came into the driver room and let them know to put on a great show that these simple words would not always be in play,,,,,,,,,, STEPHEN CURRY magic show during this years olympic games was all about the magic and magical moments live on forever and i remember day 1 at the BIG M seeing many lead changes every race and saying to myself that i could watch this with no bets involved and never knew that JOE DE FRANK was the reason for this great show and single file racing was dead and never coming back,,,,,,,,, 40-1 shots not driving for fifth was going to be the new norm and 15 to 1 shots sitting 3rd and removing off a slow pace with action from start to finish,,,,,,,,,,, Why did this end was it the loss of Joe D OR the buddy system that was getting to strong or the new surface that made for no movement but this game is crap today and no one talks about it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, How did it ever get to stage of drivers not putting up claims of foul and this be acceptable and no racing secretary or judge having the balls to know this was wrong and how could this not look like cheating plus how is it possible that tracks are so greedy that betting is not shut off before the gate moves as a breaking chalk produces payoffs that make the game look like the game is rigged and that Rodney Dangerfield scene was very close to reality,,,,,,,

Do the amateurs have to apply? The say the fans love these races. The first turn is Like demolition derby and they never give out seats. Pure excitement. Everyone goes all out. No easy "educational trips for the horse" Maybe the others have to follow these rules.
