Post by: HarnessFan1981 on August 07, 2024, 10:11:21 PM
The remainder of tonight's card @SciotoRacing was canceled after race nine due to a three-horse accident involving Just Kidding Katie (Chris Page), Manholmes (Jeremy Smith) and Admiral Adam (Luke Hanners).

@That1BarryGuy reported that the three horses involved got up and walked off the track but the three drivers are all being taken to the hospital.

🙏🙏🙏🙏

Per track announcer Barry Vicroy

Jeremy has facial injuries and concussion.

Luke has broken wrist, broken in two places & Will require surgery.

Am told they are currently keeping Chris immobilized pending test results as he was complaining of neck and back issues.

All horses involved walked away.

seems like there were hardlly any accidents the last couple of years, but the last 2 months there have been 6 or 7 bad ones

I know it's a risk on sport especially how hard and fast they push these animals.

Is there a correlation between the number of accidents in relationship to the class of horses at each track (do 'cheaper' horses have a tendency to break down more--speed kills)?  In this case it was nw3750/L4. This is the 2nd lowest conditioned class at Scioto.

Its a combination of both- asking bad horses to go speeds they shouldn't. Throw in the drug abuses on these animals and you have your answer.

You know what kills big pharma. All these drugged up horses and asshole drivers winging it when their horse is done. The horse driven by noble was parked 1:22 three quarters. Your done. Grab lines and finish 7 th.  No let’s hold the lines in one hand and slash away.  A horse will not go faster than 1:52 without drugs in their system and a trotter 1:54 without drugs in their system. So do the math. How many druggies are there. Claim a horse going in 1:49 off druggy. See him go 1:55. Why. Why. DRUGS !!!!!

All these accidents are the result of drivers!  Yes these horses are drugged and being pushed but a good driver knows the limits and these cowboys in Ohio just push too far.  They have no clue when to stop.

Yes, watching the replay it appears Noble's horse went directly under Page.

Jeremy has had a rough year as far as accidents. He's made some money but what good is it if you're all crippled up. Is it worth it? I ask myself that every day when I unhook the lines in the paddock. Yet there I am.  Heading back out to the track. My wife at home waiting on the phone call. Either from me saying I'm on my way home or from someone at the track saying there's been an accident. She knew what she was marrying in to. But it doesn't make it any easier

Sure looked like Noble caused that entire chain of events!  He should have some fines and a suspension on it's way!

Simple, horse first up is steered right into horse outside him. I've been getting demands on my Facebook group to take it down the video from his pals. So I did, and replaced it with a YouTube link.

I think there's some truth to the fact the lower class horses are pushed to their limits to compete and make money. Drivers are more aggressive and one misstep can cause a chain reaction. This won't be the last unfortunately.

This wasn't a bad step.  Noble drove into the path of another horse causing it to go down and take 2 others with it.  Noble had zero control of his horse!  He should get a lengthy vacation!

Watch the replay, the horse is moving his head right to left multiple times, it's obvious the horse is exhausted. The horse should have been pulled up. Terrible driver error.

you mean they are not race cars
even high performance race cars implode when rpm are pushed over the limit
to expect livestock to just continue on as if they had not been abused during the race seems illogical

When are we going to start puting blame on the trainers? They are the ones putting these unfit horses on the track. These drivers assume the horses are safe when they get behind them. The trainers are the ones injecting and blocking over and over with no concern for the horse or driver. The trainers lie to their owners, drivers and public and get away with it. Start putting the blame where it belongs. Then there is the commission for not doing enough to penalize and make this sport safe for the horse. There would be no business without the horse yet the trainers just keep poking them with more and more crap to gain more speed, and we are seeing the results. Hurt, innocent horses and drivers.  How cruel!!!

Any driver with half a brain knows when his horse is done. At that point you stop pushing and try to stay out of the way.

I personally think one handing both lines and slashing with the other should be a 7 day sit down. For first offense and go up from there.

This was Noble not having control of his horse.  I agree we can blame trainers or whoever in some cases.  But not in this case.  There is no one else to blame here other than Noble.  Horse was done and he had zero control over him.  He drifted out and caused that accident.  Lines were flapping in the breeze.  Even the judges no it was his fault.  He was Dq'd from 4th.

I also think when the stable $ goes down and the odds drop right before the race some of these drivers know they have to do what ever it takes to be in the money.

You're right. He has talent but he sometimes makes really bad decisions. I loved racing with Chip. We had some good talks while warming up on the track
