Did anyone see this race? The chalk 3 horse driven by Sylvain Filion never came anywhere close to approaching the starting gate...the tv feed was flashing "Recall" - the announcer Middleton was clearly under the impression that there was a recall - yet the rest of the horses lines up behind the gate as normal - except for the 1 horse who broke inside the fair start pole - and the race went off which clearly shocked ken middleton - the chalk was declared non-starter....after the race they interviewed Trevor henry and asked him about all the confusion and henry basically said what confusion?? We were all at the gate like normal and the race went off like normal.
I'm curious if Filion thought there was a recall ? Or did his horse just refuse the gate? They were going for close to $100k - did the starter screw up here and have the recall lights on like Middleton said he did?
Of course, the judges report makes no mention of anything other that refunding the 3 - it all seemed very strange - wondering if any of you Mohawk players had any related thoughts or opinions?? thx.

filions horse just refused to trot would only jump up and down no interference or broken equipment so no need for a recall

jazzman - I thought the same thing about Filion's horse - so are you saying Middleton blew it and was wrong when he said the recall lights were flashing? And the TV crew was wrong and blew it when they showed the graphics "Recall"??

Whether or not there should have been a recall when was the last time that the feed everyone was watching was saying recall, and the start of the race was not even shown live? The replay which says recall in the top right corner as soon as the replay starts, was focusing on Filion's horse and shows that they didn't pick up the race till late on the first turn not the start.

Without doubt there was confusion but something happened in the past that might have made Henry vigilant in what he said and how he said it. In a 750k race about 10 years (maybe more) ago the red recall lights went on behind the starter. Some drivers immediately pulled up and some didn’t. The lights go off and the start continues. After the race they interviewed every driver. The driver who finished third said it effected his outcome. They declared him a non starter and took him down. Placed last. I saw this last night. The camera was on the three horse. They announced he was returning to the paddock and to stay tuned for the reason. All of a sudden the camera man pans to the quarter pole and they are racing. The announcer was shocked. He didn’t even start calling the race until after the quarter. In the interview they asked Henry and I was saying to myself “ don’t say it”. He answered perfectly to be kept up.

so what all you guys are saying so far - the starter did nothing wrong - Filion's horse refused the gate - and Middleton and the TV crew made bad mistakes thinking there was a recall when, in fact, there was no recall..
-
if you used the 3 in late pick 5 - which was Leg 1 - did you get refunded or did you get post time chalk? Does anyone know? Thanks
-
It does seem that way. Considering the fact that they never showed the starting car at all there was no way for any of us to see if the recall light was on. Most likely the TV crew messed it up and Middleton was looking at the feed not the track. How else could he not see that the race was starting and make his calls so late.
I think late scratches get post time chalk if the sequence has already started.

this is accurate tmbz1
recall lights never came on and there was no reason for a recall unless there was broken equipment
#3 was refusing well before the recall pole so he was a non starter
Middleton and graphics were confused and made inaccurate assumptions
all the other drivers were alert and noses on the gate except for #1 who broke

thanks everyone for your input - hoping someone can confirm their rule on pick 5 leg 1 - if you used 3 - do you get refunded or do you get the chalk?

years ago-this would be a scratched bet-refund
nowadays--they probably give you the favorite because they dont want the handle loss

Middleton has done YouTube videos of his announcing and he does in fact announce from the video feed only. He does not watch the track at all.
