Honestly, take a look at Race 5 today... 1-1 shot #4 (Bettor Roll On) being handled (not driven) by Mike Merton.....drops in 4th off the gate and stays inside behind 15-1 and 19-1 shots the whole way. At the half, he gets buried inside by the outer flow.
Can you at LEAST make an effort on a 1-1 shot and go first -over at the half and MAYBE give your horse and the people who backed you a CHANCE???
I know both Greg Merton and Mike Merton are two of the leading drivers at Monticello ......but there are times that they just sit in the bike on a favorite or second choice and give little or no effort........bru tal.

BETTOR ROLL ON
May 21 Open Monti Mike Merton (#6, at a price)
a back of the pack rail ride, mid-track stretch fin 5th, 'bout three lengths back. No moves of own. Nothing.
May 28 today Open Mike Merton (co -fave ..not sure why)
a buried rail, rail ride, mid-track stretch 'drive' fin 5th, 'bout three lengths back. No moves of own. Nothing.
Very consistent trips. Same level, same driver.
Todays M.Merton trip= he was VERY aware of how he and horse ran last week...most of these performances don't happen by accident.
Welcome to world of horse racing, cheap harness racing anyway.
Bogeyman nw-1. Wishing you better your next play.

I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE #4 WAS EVEN MONEY.
TRIP HANDICAPPING, IF HE COMES 1ST OVER HE MOST LIKELY
ENDS UP OFF THE BOARD. HE CAN'T LEAVE AND CERTAINLY
CAN NOT RACE UNCOVERED. LOOK LIKE HE NEEDS SOME TYPE OF
CLASS DROP.

I knew I was "dead" when he didn't go first -over at the half....but I would have felt better if Merton did SOMETHING, rather than sit in behind those long shots. Go first-over and give it up on the far turn - at least I would have felt I got a little run for my money.
I also try to stay away from races where the three Merton boys are in the same race .....never know whose "turn" it is to win those races......LOL.

He was bet every which way including the win pool..
so when he sat, it did seem a little peculiar.
