New Name----"Flying Start Downs"
Im not sure how much extra the starter is being paid--but Ive never seen so many horses hang back at the start (for certain drivers) then rocket up to the gate-which is released as soon as that horse's nose gets near the gate--especially effective when drawn wide.
I was under the assumption all horses had to be up on the gate well before the actual start--not so at flying start Downs.
Its total BS--and needs to be halted immediately--or announce before the start which horses will be allowed the flying start-so the gamblers can adjust their bets-alternatively-just bet G. Nap-Matt kakaley or Simon Allard--when they are on a well bet horse---they will be looked after at the start judging by recent racing.

If you want to time the gate, do so at your own risk. Your assumption is wrong.

If you're complaining about gate-timed rockets, keep your eye on animal(s) just inside or just outside of them. Are they being held back to allow freer 'explosion positioning'? If so, perhaps those drivers require judges visit.

Sometimes you will hear the announcer saying so and so “timed the gate perfectly”
Announcer noticed it but judges didn’t ??
Rule reads ….. If the judges deem that a driver has laid off the gate and then charged at near the start it in order to gain an unfair advantage at the start, the driver shall be fined or suspended or both…..
once again we are dealing with judges that are not doing their job……

Can you reference the source of the above "rule" ??
Thank you

From my understanding, if you time the gate this way, you expend extra energy at the start of the race and you lose vital energy at the finish when you need it the most.
FYI, John Campbell says this is his section in the care of the trotter and pacer.

Watch Tuesday Race 11-Matt Kakaley Jennifer Bongiorno 8 horse.
Tell me that was a fair start.
Starter saw him coming and opened the gate instead of holding back till the horse put its nose on the gate. Gate opened well before the actual start.
Plenty more examples if you keep looking--Judges dont seem to care.
