who will be racing there?

VD has a few stakes cards. The rest is short fields with cheap purses.
-
Loved Vernon back in the day, they still race horses there?

According to their website, opening day is 4/20
-
I predict they cancel racing days due to lack of entries or reduce racing days . Too many other tracks available with far better purses

The only 2 turn track in New York makes VD viable.

As is true every year.
-
For years many more people went there for their track. Now they need to earn lining and pay their bills and you can't with Vernon; 's purse structure. The entries and class of horses get lower every year. Eventually the track drastically reduces its schedule if not close.
-
From occasionally going there to watch my horses race and comments from my trainer….
Reason why VD is a good place
1. Great track to teach babies speed ,(finish them off).
2. No stall rent
3. Great hay in area for reasonable price.
4. Grooms quarters that are very reasonable.
5. Centrally located if you have N Y breds.
6. Beautiful views and clean air.
7. Lots of golf courses
8. Great fishing
Reasons why VD is not good.
1. Purse structure.
2. Races go fast for size of purse.
3. Club House not open for dining (casino there has very good food)
4. Facility is generally in state of disrepair. Not unlike most tracks.
5. Low handle so a decent bet destroys the odds.
Overall the place and area is horse and people friendly . Purses big drawback.

Are you having PMS again PORKY???
People are actually making worthwhile posts on this (unlike you). Please make constructive posts on horseplop!

if a horse only likes two turn tracks--then NY is not the place to be
this "Vernon is the only big oval in NY" nonsense is a very lame excuse
the place should be shuttered and Gural is trying to do that

Can they bring some Monticello horses to race at Vernon so we can find out how much better they really are!!!

if you have been paying attention-Gural keeps asking the state of NY for handouts or he threatens to close the place-citing losses on the horse racing side of the business
imagine a facility with a casino still asking for help
that's Vernon

Please give Gural credit!!
If the State of New York keeps giving him the money, whose fault is it!!

Sorry, not a fan of Gural and his amateur driver races, camel and ostrich races, and corn contests two days week racing at M1....and crying poor mouse all year round. Not to mention his selective barring of drug trainers, yet allowing other drug trainers to race at M1 whenever convenient for him.
Some like the guy, some don't.

George Ducharme trains at Vernon and he has mostly Massachusetts Sires Stakes horses and he might have a few NYSS horses too. He can race maiden races at Vernon ( paid qualifiers) for a learning experiences before hitting the sires stake trail. A good price to pay if things workout with a good horse or 2.

Vernon has a SLOTS PARLOR in a sea of CASINOS. And, if he wanted it closed he could just accept the tax increases as the lower tax deal expires (as it has before). Instead, he gets the NY legislature and governor to actually use common sense (very rare in government) and he keeps a couple hundred or so folks employed.

Imagine owning a casino where the state let another open 15 miles away and gave them all the tax breaks. Don’t be a moron. He is fighting for equal treatment

Say what you want but its always been a pleasure to race at Vernon/Tioga 15yrs of racing never a problem As opposed to that SHITHOLE Buffalo Raceway which should have been condemned Did they get their playbook from 1930s Germany?Erie Co Fair hahaha gdamn hypocrites

Great track to train young trotters on and to ship out on race day when not racing in Stakes’ races there. Was too bad when Homer and Verlin moved on.

Qualifiers Saturday. 14 races. Over 100 in the box.

The bigger track version of Monticello with similar purse money!!!
-
Did Vernon get a track veterinarian I heard at least 3 turned it down
-
15 races. 6 fields of 9, 7 of 8 and 2 of 7 ..
Vet ?? 60 horses on lasix, not a bad 2 hrs work.
Think I’ll take a ride up.

I miss Pigland.

Read his last handful of posts.
Enough said!

Vernon a great track size and surface wise. Buildings/grandstand are showing their age. Move all Yonkers racing to Vernon and do away with racing at Yonkers and that would be exciting. Send the MGM money to Vernon. MGM doesn't want racing anyway.
-
Friend in Vernon tells me they installed new roofs last fall and now are putting new carpeting in upstairs club house. Lots of fresh painting, even resurfacing the 1/2 mile track.
I’m planning on going up to the races Saturday. Will see what it looks like.

You can tell people have never been there. Great place to train young trotters. Just ask George DuCharme.
A lot of history there. Remember back in the 70’s when every summer during Grand Circuit week everyone who was anybody showed and then went to the big party Dr. Steele and his wife would throw for everyone. Probably where Eddie “Funnigan” Dunnigan got his nickname.
-
I think Kenwood Farms (Noyes) also had a big shindig too.

Not to be mean here, I already mentioned Ducharme on page 2 of this thread.
