Title: Mohawk Million "slots" Drawn
Post by: Harness Stats on March 24, 2024, 10:11:47 AM
The owners have been drawn for the Mohawk Million.  Slot fee has been reduced to $50,000.  With only 10 drawn how will they get the other half million or do they have to change the name of the race?  Don't recall Mohawk Woodbine adding anything to the purse the first few times its raced.

Here are the owners drawn

Blair Corbeil
Brad Grant
Coyote Wynd Farms
Diamond Creek
Gino Toscani
Hunterton Farms
Noel Daley
Pryde Stables Inc.
Rankin & Venneri
Tara Hills Stud

Just one I want to bring up.  Gino Toscani.  I really know nothing about the guy except he seems to be the most honest horseman alive based on the amount of horses he has, the money he spends, the number of unknown trainers he gives chances to, and how little his success is in terms of having anything he owns win a big race or becoming anything more than a nice racehorse in the past dozen years or so.   I wish him luck.

Toscani is almost shy. He's quiet, polite to everyone and loyal to a fault. He's hard to figure. He's monumentally successful in his business (builder) and you might expect him to be aggressive and demanding in the horse business but not so. Only thing for sure is that he really really likes horses.

If the slots sold for $100k--they wouldn't sell 10 of them

The above is incorrect. And even the most inept of the "unknown trainers" could out step Herb.

When did Jones and Merner become trainers for Gino. When Herb got suspended for a hot test

Herb still the one helping pick the horses out at the sales. He might not be real motivated but knows how to pre race.

Herb couldn't train a dog to lick his balls.
Jones became a trainer when she started banging Gino. Same as Amanda Fine and Steve Heimbecker lol.
Gino has more money than he needs. All his trainers are sub par.

Then, why is his average so low?

I don't remember Herb ever being a high-percentage trainer. Not in NJ when he was here for many years, and not in Toronto either. I have no idea what's going on now, but he's certainly not a 20% shooter.

Herb did train Captains Quarters last year and he won the Metro for owner Rich Stiles. Originally, Rich was an owner, way back in the day, of Vinnie Aurigemma. So here's what a lot of people don't know about this colt...he was broke and trained very early on by none other than...Greg Peck.

Peck is a lunatic but a darn good horseman
