The 18-year-old stallion Explosive Matter, known for being the sire of Hambletonian winner Pinkman, has been euthanized in Finland due to his aggressive behavior.
Never mind gelding him and seeing if he would live the rest of his life in peace.
-
Lousy caretakers.
-
I think a person should know a great deal more about the circumstances before passing judgement. For us, gelding saved a vicious horse but we were repeatedly warned by a competent vet that the ingrained bad habits might be slow to change or may not change at all.
-
MP needs to weigh in on this one.
-
The Vet is right. Generally a stallion this old and having been a career revenue earning breeding stallion, isn't cured by gelding him. If he becomes that dangerous to work around and safety becomes a primary issue, I'm sure the decision wasn't made lightly.

I smell a gofundme for Finland funds coming from the horseplop “legend” more like horseplop loser
-
Maybe some thc gummies would’ve helped him chill.

Why? Because you don't know that gelding him at 18 is useless? I'll say it this way, he made people A LOT of money and now his usefulness has dried up. This is the norm for harness racing. If it happened here I'm sure he may have ended up in a compost pile in New Hampton. Business as usual. But if he was rogue his only chance was a field by himself.

Hey ploptwat? What do you do for a living? Does it involve "earning" a paycheck off the welfare subsidized industry called harness racing? Am I supposed to do others bidding for free? Do you? Make sure you post the proof too.
-
If they would only do that to somepeople
-
Mike are you getting on a boat and heading over?
-
You ever help these animals? Mock all you want.
-
Im not the self proclaimed savior to all Standardbreds.
-
It's obvious you don't help unless there's something in it for you. It's also obvious there's Lots of alternative motives for you.

I call BS on this. What was in it for Mike to save the 7 horses in NJ? He made arrangements got the horses moved to a safe clean location where they'd be cared for and he's been taking a lot of shit for it since. He's right, why do anything to help save the integrity of the horses, which seems to be your point. Clearly nothing would have been done about if he didn't take the lead. All the BS that followed suit afterward is a bunch of busy bodies Yarock included that got they're toes stepped on and had no further defense. Fuck Dave Yarock the guy should hange up ALL OF HIS LICENSES including his series 7

Seems like he attacked and injured a couple different people and became unmanageable. Sad but they still eat horses in Europe, so not super surprising.

They should have tried gelding him first. I gelded a 17 that was as dangerous as could be. He was gelded and calmed down and became a pet after 2 months. It seemed that the horse had some sort of nerve degeneration in the testicle area and was in pain causing him to be mean. It is basically undetectable which is why they should have at least tried by gelding him.

I experienced the same problem. It makes you ouchey

It's fuckin cold in Finland I'd be unruly too.

That's interesting, and sad, to hear. He stood at Hanover for a number of years; I don't recall anything about him being a real problem here.
ETA: Isn't Finland also where Broadway Hall was euthanized recently (like maybe within the last year) due to vision issues?
-
Update: Apparently the person he attacked in Sweden before going to Finland was hurt very badly and nearly killed. He then attacked someone else in Finland. Not sure if it’s true but that’s what’s being said.

No imbecile, I stated a fact that EVERYONE in the "industry" called harness racing survives of an "industry" supported by state welfare. Prove me wrong. Go on....I'll wait.
