Its not just MGM's plan at Yonkers that doesnt include racing..
Look at Resorts World's plan for Aqueduct..

I understand right now Belmont is undergoing a renovation to run year round. Someone posted it will be finished in 2 years. Then they will have no use for the big A.

That may be a bit ambitious, but there are plenty of options and alternatives...

Did someone report YR is closing? In the artists rendering of the new facility it shows the track behind the buildings.

I remember when Monti was doing well. Every 4th of July they had a doubleheader, sometimes 13 or 14 races in each card, and then the big fireworks display in front of the raceway.

Nfld + Lebanon [less often] used to have them. Lebanon had one the same day as cincy - chargers super super cold playoff game just down the road in cincy [@ -9 temp -59 wind chill] now they cancel if they even predict snow sometimes. tmbz1

I think the Meadowlands, Pocono and Chester would be the benefactors, not Monticello, if Yonkers ceased racing. My main reason is the time and cost of shipping from all the NJ farms that ship to Yonkers. Shipping from Central/Southern NJ to Monticello on a regular basis would be a nightmare, especially with the present purse structure at MR.

Don’t forget back then most of the horses were stabled on track. Now with all shipping in it makes racing in a snowstorm more challenging

I can't speak to Aqueduct and Belmont, but it's obvious and as old as dirt -- as soon as a casino company which owns a track can decouple or find some other way to exit harness racing, and keep the casino, unless it's at the Meadowlands or Toronto, I can't imagine why they wouldn't.

I think the NY TB tracks are safe but I think those casino dudes would shutter a harness track in a jiffy.

You really think so? Under the current legislation, can shut down racing at Aqueduct and keep the casino open? Initially everyone thought renovate/rebuild Belmont, set it up for year-round racing, get the BC back, and so on. Then all that's left is a casino at Aqueduct, and the push would be to relocate the casino as well. Goodbye Aqueduct. I know there's been pushback to a casino near Belmont. Not sure where all this stands though. A lot of new power in NY racing today.

If they winterize Belmont there is no need for 2 tracks. TB's all year round at Belmont. Besides in my personal opinion Aqueduct is a sh@@hole.
