Biased answer living in Chicago?

Pizza at the meadowlands doesn’t count in this.

At least the pizza is greasy at Yonkers!!

This is really a no brainer. If you like thick crust it’s Chicago. If you like normal pizza it’s NYC hands down.

Agree!  I love both.  Just depends what you are in the mood for.

but, Chatham, Ontario is the home of home of the original "Hawawian Pizza". Pizio's in Fort Lauderdale was an great, early "pizza joint" in the 50's.

Deep dish is OK.  NY sucks because you have to compare it to Wooster St. in New Haven.  Sallys, Pepe's and the Spot rule.  And you still have good ones like Modern on State St. and Zuppardi's in West Haven.

Zuppardi’s is my personal favorite.

They also sell their frozen pizza through ShopRite which is far and away the best frozen pizza you can buy in a supermarket and better than the majority of delivery.

Big Y in CT also carries the frozen Zuppardi's.  It doesn't really compare to their fresh made but better than the commercial crap you find in grocery stores.

Big Y itself actually makes a good tasting pizza with a large thick crust, not the usual thin New Haven style which they sell pretty cheap for the amount you get. I think they put sugar in the recipe though ngc3

Are you old enough to remember Verdolini's in Meriden?  It closed like 40 years ago but had the most unusual and best tasting pizza in the state.  They put the sauce on top of the cheese among other differences from the New Haven style.  I am still pissed off they closed.

I don’t believe it’s even a close call.  CHICAGO.  Both times I was in New York it was just a brutal experience. The first time I wasn’t ready to order and I had to go to the end of this very long line then when I finally got my pizza it was ok at best.  The second time was worse than the first. Nothing but yummy yum yum in Chicago!!!

Chicago Pizza is not Pizza

It's a giant slab of bread with cheese and Spoghetti O's slathered on top.

Garbage Food

Naturally everyone thinks deep dish when thinking of Chicago. NY/NJ pizza doesnt have toppings on them to speak of, which in most cases midwesterners want. The go to in Chicago and around is thin crust WITH enough topping to even taste. Not a "pie" with a ladle full of sauce and a sprinkle of "Moots a rell". We can argue all day but it doesnt matter.

I’m noticing no one has an opinion of Detroit Pizza. One of these pizzarias recently opened by me. I am not a pepperoni fan and when I saw this is a big thing with Detroit Pizza I decided to pass. Does anyone have an opinion as it compares to NY and Chicago pizza?

I like both. I like the deep-dish style and in Chi-town they do it right! I kind of like Detroit-style pizza too.

Detroit pizza is tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese on a stolen hubcap.

Pizza, when done right, is great. When it's mass produced or made poorly, it sucks.
Old Forge, PA has several excellent pizza restaurants.
New Haven of course
NYC
NJ
These spots are among the best. I only had Chicago pizza a few times. There was a place south of Midway Airport that had a pizza with Italian beef toppings. It was amazing. Thin crispy crust cut into smaller pieces than slices. My 1 experience with deep dish was good though not great. Giordano?

Deep dish is the pizza for tourists. Most Chicago area people eat thin (tavern style), far superior to deep dish. I've never had NY style so cannot compare.

Was that place right on Rt. 50? Was it Lou Malnati's or something like that?
