Who let this migrant into these forums....if it wasn't for whites. Soap wouldn't be used.
-
Both pretty good but when Case came here to Northfield he dominated night after night. Drove Ward right into an OD seizure.

NOT EVEN CLOSE

When he showed up. ngc3 ngc3

How can you even compare Walter with Lew? Walter hands down was a better driver.
I wonder how Lew’s beautiful blond Melody Space is doing?
-
I watched both in their prime at Northfield and I would give the edge to Case. Watch Lew drive a lot of good horses including Baron Gerard. Lew would bet on his own horses. Heard he loss a 1k on a bad step in the lane. He would still rank among the best in the sport nowadays. But Case with all his baggage I would give the edge. He could bring in any horse regardless of talent.
-
Maybe but Ceba Horsey has them both beat!
-
irrelevant post
-
Case had the most incredible hands. Unfortunately he used one of them to attempt murder.
-
Don't care who was the better driver. Rumor of the day back then was that Williams goaded Peter Haughton into that fatal "accident"
-
CASE DID TOO MUCH BLOW! HE WASN'T AS GOOD ON BIG TRACKS!
WE HAD A NICE STAKES HORSE. WE HAD A TOP DRIVER SITTING BEHIND HIM FOR $$. PROBLEM WAS HE HAD ANOTHER HORSE IN THE SERIES THAT HE OWNED A PIECE OF IN SECRET. WE CALLED SOME GUY WHO REPPED CASE. THEY WANTED $5K UP FRONT, + TRAVEL EXPENSES FOR THE FINAL! $5K BUYS A FEW 8 BALLZ!
-
Williams better than Case? No. Never. Not even if Case's league. Williams had talent as a driver. Had ability too. But not in the same league as Case as far as talent or ability.
-
Is this guy taking the piss! Nobody likes to hear ifs and buts, BUT IF Walter was sans all the problems he had he would be the all-time leading race winner. LEW WHO
-
There’s no comparison,
Sweet Lee drove at the highest level , won major stake races all over North America, was a driving force at The Meadowlands when the place was the center of the racing world and your comparing him to a guy who was a glorified overnight driver who had moderate success in the NYSS. That’s laughable. FYI , by John Campbell’s on admission , had Lew not went off the rails his Lew would have dominated the Meadowlands. John was the one who spoke and presented Lews HOF induction to Lews family.

IN MY OPINION LEW WILLIAMS WAS THE GREATEST NATURAL BORN DRIVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT! NONE CAME CLOSE TO HIS NATURAL ABILITIES! TRUTHFULLY, MOST ON HER DID NOT KNOW LEW AS A DRIVER NOR HAS SEEN HIM DRIVE NOR DRIVEN ONE OF HIS MOUNTS THE WEEK AFTER LEW DROVE THE HORSE----YOU CAN TRUST ME LEW WOULD AND COULD MAKE A HORSE DO THINGS THAT NEVER KNEW COULD DO THINGS! ONCE LEW DROVE A FLAT HORSE ANY CATCH DRIVEN WOULD BE ELATED TO DRIVE HIM THE NEXT AS LEW HAD A WAY TO MAKE EVERY HORSE RESPECT HIM!
I HAD THE PLEASURE AND MISFORTUNE OF BEING VERY CLOSE TO LEW IN THE GLORY DAYS AND RECALL CHRISTOPHER VERY WELL----LEW WAS A VERY GOOD PERSONE AND DID NOTHING TO HARM ANYONE---HE HAD UNCONTROLLABLE DEMONS THAT CONTROLLED HIM!
I AM SURE JOHN CAMPBELL TRULY BELEIVED WHAT HE STATED IN THE HOF INDUCTION AS THEY COMPETED MANY TIMES AT THE BIG M! MORE IMPORTANTLY LEW WOULD GIVE OU THE SHIRT OFF HIS BACK TO HELP ANYONE---ANY PERSON DOWN ON HIS LUCK! LEW WAS A GOOD PERSON!
THE WORLD NEVER GOT TO SEE THE ABILITY OF LEW WILLIAMS AND I SURELY HOPE CHRISTOPHER GREW INTO BEING A FINE YOUNG MAN AND IS PROUD OF HIS FATHERS ACCOMPLISHMENTS!
I AM PROUD AND HONORED TO TRUTHFULLY SAY I REGARDED LEW WILLIAMS AS A PERSONAL FRIEND!

Well said.
Most on here aren’t old enough to have seen Super Lew at work.
If I recall Case took his shot at the Meadowlands in the mid 80’s then head across the river where the going wasn’t as tough

Kant seeback: Don't discount General Washington tmbz1

General had them all beat!

With you name Seriously. Seriously I hope someone slapped the piss out of his parents for hanging that name on him. ;D

are you kidding me if it wasn’t for Jeanette and Edward Freeberg where would he be without Whatabarron! Case in his prime could make a bad horse look good.

So what ever became of Cedric and his dad Bubba Washington?

I remember one night back in the early 90's at YR Case was driving a horse that was laid off 2 years. George Anthony and Byron Lassin were ranting and raving about there was no way Case could win with that horse, he jiggy jogged.
-
What a character George Anthony is. He was a NYC cop, harness trainer, track announcer, track analyst and today he is involved with the thoroughbreds. I saw George at Pompano in their last days where Gabe Prewitt invited George to call a few races. He was always nice to me whenever I saw him in the Meadowlands paddock. He got some raw deal at Pocono Downs by some idiot in charge of racing operations.

Ced still dabbles in the business, good guy, remember Little Apple Do, nice little mare.

-
Both of these guys were at the top of the game by breaking the rules on a daily basis with the shoeing nails thru the boot heal and the taped up whip butt! How many fines have been given to Purple Jesus is really "Pokem Jesus!"
-
Taping the whip handle is not allowed? Has that always been the case?
-
Case sabatoged a career that would have made him the leading driving wins of all time. No one could make one go like Walter.
-
My man Jeff knew Lew, said he was living a fast life.
-
Herve filling great
-
As a pure driver, i think "Casey' was superior to Williams. As a decent man, i think Lew wins hands down!
-

Case was nothing more then and overnight driver. He unlike Sweet Lou couldn’t handle the pressure of driving in the premier events, Hambo WW, LBJ etc, like Lew could. If you disagree just name the premier races he won.
Let’s not forget Lew made What’s Baron, Jilley , New Lew
-
How did black fella die. Tractor accident?
-
LEW WAS IN OHIO WORKING ON A FARM AND WAS TRYING TO BEAT HIS DEMONS. UNFORTUNATELY, LEW WAS DRIVING A TRACTOR AND IT FLIPPED AND TOOK HIS LIFE.
AS I STATED PREVIOUSLY, I HAD THE HONOR OF BEING A FRIEND TO LEW MANY YEARS AND WATCHED HIM HELP SO MANY IN THIS BUSINESS! HE HELPED THE UNDER DOG WITH JOBS, FOOD AND CLOTHING. IF HE HAD NOTHING HE WOULD HELP ANY SOUL THAT NEEDED HELP. HE ALSO DROVE MANY HORSES FROM THE MEADOWS AND OHIO AT THE BIG M FOR FOLKS THAT NEEDED HELP. SAL GATI WAS A PERSONAL FRIEND OF LEW AND BROUGHT A BUNCH TO THE BIG M FROM OHIO. JULIAN COHEN BROUGHT IN COURAGEOUS LADY FROM OHIO---YEARS BEFORE ED AND JEANETTE (BOTH OF WHOM WERE DEAR FRIENDS OF MINE AND TRULY WERE WONDERFUL FOLKS) RECALL JEANTTE AND ED WERE NEOPHYTES IN THE BUSINESS AND LEW BUILT THEIR STABLE HONESTLY AND BOUGHT HORSES LIKE APRILS SKIPPER, WHATA BARON, PRAIRE WALNUT, NEW LEW, BARON GERARD, MILLERS EFFORT, SEATRAIN,SPARE HAND, NATIVE AMBER TO NAME A FEW. HE DID NOT CHARGE FEES OR AGENCY FEES---HE BELEIVED HIS MONEY WOULD BE MADE DRIVING THESE HORSES. ED AND JEANNETTE WOULD HAVE STUCK WITH LEW FOREVER IF HE COULD HAVE BEATEN THE DEMONS.
THIS WAS THE HEYDAY OF MODERN HARNESS RACING WHERE TRACKS LIKE THE BIG M, ROOSEVELT, YONKERS, BRANDYWINE, HARRINGTON, DOVER, MONTICELLO WERE THRIVING!
MR.LEW WILLIAMS IN MY OPINION WAS A GENTLEMAN!
-
For some reason, I remember the tractor flipping over on him was in New Jersey. Not sure. It has been a few decades ago.
-
So what ever became of Cedric and his dad Bubba Washington?
[/
Bubba died a few years back and Cedric is still working scams around Monticello.
-
Case without a doubt
-
Died in Ohio. I know a couple people who worked for Lew, said greatest job ever. Somebody would give him a bag of weed and he'd just give it to the help, he liked something else. Whatever happened to his kid, haven't heard in years. Cadiz, Ohio the home of to some interesting history.
-
i dont think a tractor can flip by itself
just clarifying
-
Regarding Lew...he trained for me both in Ohio and California and I am almost positive the tractor was in PA and believe me Lew would not what a tractor looked like if you showed him a picture. Under a tractor is how he died but it is not hard to connect the dots.
What happened to brother Chuckie
-
To set the record straight. Lew Williams died at the age of 42 in 1989. He died while driving a tractor up a steep embankment at Bel Clare Farm in NJ. The tractor fell over and pinned him under it.
