Title: Worst buy ever comes to an end
Post by: PurpleSheetPicks on February 21, 2024, 11:00:31 PM
The showherthemoney story has a new chapter. Once sold for an outrageous 700k as a broodmare, now sold for 12k as a broodmare

I remember that sale well. I was there. I got outbid on every horse I bid on. I was second underbidder on one that Larry Baron bought for $140,000. Her name was Shacked Up. Career winner of $1mm plus, but as soon as I saw Larry bidding I knew they were going to run him up. I pegged her at $100k, and I don't think there was a legit bid between $110k and $140k.

Anyway John paid a record amount Showherthemoney. She was a 4yo mare, won about $750k, and was one of the top pacing fillies that year. Very strong pedigree, a lot of production, and she was half to Put On A Show who was the top 3yo pacing filly that year. No way worth $700k! Too bad for John.

Didn't he sell Cash Is King out of that mare?

Kept all of them. One made 240. The rest bled even more money. Well over a million invested in this mare and her offspring, 12k returned

actually luc it is more than $12k
you will have a stud fee( or use a breeding) and the boarding charges
and yes she has already been bred to sweet lou twice with no success

so some of you folks think that all of a sudden this mare will become a success broodmare, 7 foals so far with very limited success
you could find much better  for  around $20 k to take a chance on

Black type pedigree, in a largely failed breeding prospect, 18years old? Free to a good home, isnt even a commercial value here.
