I was just checking results, and as I came upon Cal-Expo, I noticed that every horse this guy drives or trains is beaten by a mile!! Why, if his horses can't compete at a place like this, why do they accept his entries?? Is it just to fill their small fields?? This guy is an auto toss, every race he is in!! I think, he's only gotten a few minor checks!!
Anyway, he stinks and his horses are way over classed or just awful!! Plus, they race 40 times a year!!
-
I just looked at the results from cal expo. 3 horses lose by total of 58 lengths and another horse by distance. Clearly they shouldn’t have been on the track. Clearly they haven’t been jogging or training these horses. This kids father is Larry staulbaum from Saratoga. He sends everything down the road, guts them every race. Larry did a interview once and said his horses do not get a day off, their day off is the day the horse races he said. What a idiot ! Kid must have learned from his dad. Shameful . Poor horses.
-
He did get a 5th on Friday, but the other 2 he raced were 8th by 15, and 8th distanced!! How does he survive?? California ain't cheap to stay in!!!
-
Last Tuesday 5 horses in, 1 check, a 5th, but this horse was trained by his sister! The other 4 were 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th!! Pitiful performance!! Nobody can survive at that rate!!
-
I looked up the Trainer standings at Cal, Winter has 28 starts with no wins or seconds, but he does have 3 3rds!! Total purses $7438!! That averages out to less than $300 per horse each start!! This kid should be working the counter at Mickey D's not training horses!!
-
Winter Asher staulbaum is not new to the business, he’s been around horses all his life and been training and driving for quite a few years , maybe he should stick to grooming or jogging horses for his someone else.
-
Don’t you guys know how most trainers make their money, a lot of rookies here
-
I’m not rookie idiot, was in the business over 40 years, I’ll forget more than you will ever know. Made lots of lots of money from great training and knowing what to do, not buy using drugs like lots of trainers. Would give my horses a week off every 6 weeks or so,not run them into the ground. Had lots of horses that would race at 10 and 11 yrs old cause I took care of the properly. Good try buddy.
-
No rookie here, either!! If my trainer was that bad, plus he couldn't drive a dead fly--he'd be long gone!! Just was wondering how he survives?? Maybe he does have a 2nd job at the Golden Arches! Just saying!! He surely only trains dad's castoffs!!
-
Cal Expo pays you to race there.
-
I haven't looked but sometimes trainers use real races as training miles depending on the draw, class, and horse.
With that said I know a few people who learned from Larry. They do very very well when they want. When the price is right on the tote board. Maybe the kid is just bad. And he does have a lot of older aged horses. He may blow up the tote board one time and pay for his entire Meet. The stalbaum training tree is very sharp. Not saying its legal or right. But they do well.
-
The bad thing is the public has no idea the the trainer may tell the driver "hey buddy just go around the track. Don't pull the horse. Sit in. I'll put you back up when he is good.
-
He was up here for the fairs and he got fined and then suspended for whipping the crap out his horses. Then he got fined $750 at cumberland for entering 3 horses and not showing up. He got fined a grand and got suspended for 3 days and he was only up here about a month. He is trouble.
-
He's not afraid to pull first up when he's double digits and an outside post! Ya also have to take fact that Poppa Bomber had some of these things that he is racing. When he is asked how he wants his horses, he must reply "Gutted and Fried!" ngc3

Sure did, had a horse that raced at Yonkers and meadowlands that made a little over 1 million, had to retire him at 8 yrs old, hurt his leg in a race then never the same after a layoff so we gave him the retirement he deserved.

He did show at Cumberland, put his horses in the stall he was told to than told to move them to stalls that had horses in them. He got mad and scratched them. I watch him the last few year and he works hard and loves his horses. He may not have the stock to get it done out their?

Appreciate all of your insight. WILL now monitor W Stahlbaum double digit stock in hopes, sooner than later, that he sticks a 40-1 nose in a tri.
Obviously no guarantees BUT..
happy and healthy new year all.

the guy is trying to make a living . let him be

He will too, works hard , patient, has Money behind him, drive, determination and knows his stuff, just needs to find his place and get comfortable there if he decides to stay

Winter and his siblings are nice, hard working and don’t bother anyone or get involved in the usual track drama. Would not consider him “trouble” by any means.
-
winter is 20 years old! he has talent and is respectful. winter was at Cumberland! the paddock judge kept moving his horses and he was stressed out so he scratched his horses. The paddock judge BRENDA BROWN IS NO TALENTED PIECE OF SHIT! The whole day was chaos.
The stock winter has may not be suitable for cal expo but dont bash a great kid that just needs a little bit more time.
-
Is this Larry's son that Tracy T did also?
-
Hard working kid that’s trying to get going. Leave him alone

For a young man trying to get ahead in this game, he exhibits a fortitude to succeed! To load up and travel a couple thousand miles for a chance to prosper takes alot of courage and determination. The one thing that alot of folks don't take into account is that it only takes one really good horse to be put in a position to prosper for years! GIVE'EM HELL MINI BOMBER! tmbz1 11.wp tmbz1
