Title: Harrah’s Chester
Post by: theokodjak26 on October 26, 2023, 01:04:43 PM
I am realizing that of most of the tracks discussed Harrah’s Chester is rarely mentioned. Unless they are holding some occasional big purse races or some idiot driver is trying to run another driver off the track, this place seems to be in hiding. I went onto Yelp to read some recent reviews and they were just awful. Of course most of the reviews concerned the casino, lack of restaurants and a not so hot group of customers walking around. Apparently the neighborhood has a high PA crime rate. But what I couldn’t find were any real reviews about the track. What I did read was the track is usually empty. What I was looking for were the kind of reviews that we share on Plop. So does any trainer, owners, drivers or fans have anything to share about this track? I have never been there.

Me neither. I am out of this one.

It is a bad neighborhood. You wouldn't want to be out there after dark. It is by water in fact part of the racing surface is over the water. It seems that most of the crowd is betting simulcast races of other tracks. The handle is not good either.

A friend goes there a lot. Restaurant nearly empty, racing dominated by 47% favorites who typically quarter-move to the lead. While track is not in the worst part of Chester, agree with comment not to linger after dark.

Other posters correct. Very predictable especially during stakes season when horse drop out of stakes and into NW xxx lt usually win at low odds.

1/4 move to lead by chalk is likely in almost race.

Claimers you need to look at the ( hot (juice) guys and when they are using. For instance Taneyhilll, usually a deadly claimer trainer, has been an auto toss for the last two weeks. Right now driver colony is not optimal...leading to some scumbaggery.

They should expand the prison to include the paddock. With the criminals they let race there

The paddock is very nice. As are most tracks, coming from off the pace to win is very difficult there.  The purses are lower than they were in past years as well.  The track surface had issues a few years back.

The purses have declined there over the years. Can't make any money racing in overnights there.

I was there a few years ago. Chilly day before Breeders Crown at Poconos. My brother and I were prolly 2 of 10 people in the place. Food was horrible. Watched a couple races from outside terrace, a funeral parlor has more buzz.

Yep prison backs onto property. Get on the exit and don't look back.

It's a catch 22 like most harness tracks now. No one goes because no one is there.

Looks like all the juicers have moved from Pokey nose to Chester. Same state just different location. Don't understand Pa and the racing commission there.

If you are going to plan a visit. Make sure if taking kids you feed them first. Only food available you have to go through casino to get too. Other than an overpriced vending machine

Kids feed themselves now thankfully. Appreciate the heads up. I am gonna take a ride to Plainridge soon. Say hi to some friends/watch some races.

Chester is a much better plant than Plainridge. Just empty. I found Plairidge pretty awful

And to me, who goes there 3 times a year including dinner at Pink, The new Meadowlands is a shell of the old Meadowlands, so truly, where is there a "nice" harness track anymore?

Well Fug the Big M may not be the same but compared to the other tracks it’s like the Taj Mahal. At least they have a decent food court on live race nights. At MR the food court is a junk food machine.

Chester sucks, it’s hard racing for small purses, I believe it will be closed within 2 years if the higher up don’t get up their asses and make changes

You are an old school horseman and obviously still love the game. Every track is worth a visit. Some are huge disappoints but always fun to get there

Always interested in any suggestions 73cv.2

What ever happened with the unfortunate guy that suffered the severe injury caused by the surface not to long after Chester first opened?

Colletta got a decent settlement because the top brass there acted like they knew nothing about the issues with track. Fortunately someone documented all the complaints. It won’t take care of him with his new needs forever but at least Caesar’s had to pay something unfortunately that dirt bag DOR that wouldn’t authorize the the money to get track resurfaced still has a job

ire place

they are under contract to conduct racing which has purses funded by the casino-handle means nothing

not sure when the contracts ends

a couple of miles down the road is the city of Chester-bad neighborhood

the track and casino are safe-a million cameras oversee the entire facility-just dont drive past the track

Always have a couple of buddies on speed dial in case you win big! Never leave alone, even if you have to blend in with another group!

Same thing at the MGM Springfield in Mass. No track there, as you know. But the parking garage is spooky at night. Certainly no neighborhood to be walking around in after 7 pm. Cops already shot and killed some asshole soon after it opened, trying to pull some shit literally right in front of the joint.

its a depressing track to watch a race---- especially when people in the Delaware Valley grew up  watching races at Brandywine  ( 3 miles away)   It was a place to relax   bring the family and enjoy yourself   Chester is dull.

Tioga Downs must be on any bucket list. It is a very nice harness track. Out in the country, no crime. Often beautiful rainbows. Count Fair atmosphere.

Sounds good although MR is on your route from Tioga to Plainridge possibly. You don’t need to go down memory lane ther but if you do make sure you bring your lunch and a few sanitary wipes.

The takeout at Chester is as criminal as the neighborhood.   Easy to pick winners hard to get paid in a worthwhile manner.

Fug...Seems like your route does not take you near Ocean Downs but it is also a very nice track. Family friendly and a good spectator frienly restaurant.

Nothing like a day at the beach and getting to the track in 10 minutes for some live harness racing.

Winter racing is greaat. Spent many days in the snow at Monti and when I was in college, and car less, I would hitchhike to Batavia Downs for some great snow covered tracks. Batavia may be on your route. Right off the Thruway. Open until 12-19.
