So, now that NY breeders can ship semen outside of NY, what new stallions may be attracted to stand stud there?
Also, I did not read of any changes to the residency program, requiring mares be domiciled for 6 months or more to be eligible to the Sire Stakes program. Can anyone provide up to date info?

I believe that by definition of shipping semen, this eliminates mare residency rules. Otherwise offspring of NY Stallions shipped semen would not be eligible to the NYSS.

That makes sense. But, I don't see how an out of state resident can be eligible to the same benefits and rewards as resident mare. I believe programs that allow dual eligibility , still have a minimum residency requirement.

My interpretation is that any foal by a New York Sire is eligible for the stakes program regardless of whether the Dam ever set foot on NY soil. There will be buttloads of discussions about this new ammendment to the NYSS Program!

Residency for breeders awards stays the same as in the past 180 days residency. You now can ship semen anywhere in the world from NYS stallions, and those foals will be able to be nominated to the NYSS program.

They can ship semen now but offspring will not be eligible to NYSS. I think with new law they will be eligible to race in the SS but breeders awards will stay the same.
The breeders run this industry so you know it will benefit them..

I predict the first sire to go to NYS will be……..Six Pack..

I’d love to go to New York and check out some of the hot new studs. Maybe even help collect a bit of seman.

Years ago, Pennsylvania gave more breeders money to the breeders of the mares that stated in Pennsylvania compared to the breeders mares that didn’t reside in Pennsylvania. Someone should try to lookup this information. It was a significant amount of money.
