I love Tall Dark Stranger. I predict huge success for him as a sire. This sale is for elite owners. Very hard for the average owner to come away with something. Of course, anything is possible. I think you get more bang for your buck at Harrisburg.

I'm not buying, but I saw a Huntsville filly at Peninsula built like a tank. You'd think she was a 2 yr old colt.

The one good thing about the Hoosier Sale is you don't need to be Warren Buffett to buy something decent. IMO.

The Crunches have been fast but no big earners, could just be taking a back seat the the bigger sires in PA.
-
its always fun to watch even if not buying
-
My gut feeling the yoy results won't be as impressive as last year. More bidders being squeezed out and more stock with the new sires to bid on.

Hip 60 was bought back for $200,000 by Blue Chip farms? Are they nuts? How much do they think they will get?
-
curious what #112 sells for
Andy Miller bought him, He trained the colts dam Designed to Be. So having a half brother to Greenshoe for 150 seems reasonable.

This dam was another Miller trainee Seviyorum who earned a lot of money. Maybe they want to race her?

sellers frequently bid on their own and may get stuck owning them
they either max out their sales or risk racing them OR may not have wished to sell the yearling in the auction ring and were just pricing the yearling for its new partners in racing the horse

Watch at registration time Gural or a Gural entity will be partnered on one or all of these.

. I predict Tall Dark Stranger will be a flop. He was horse that Yannick had to pound on to go and the biggest factor: He's a Bettor's Delight. No son of Bettor's Delight has made a stallion worth a damn.
-
if tds is a flop it will be one of the biggest ever given the mares he has gotten
one thing in his favor is he has a strong maternal family, i know some dont feel that is relevant but his pedigree is top notch which cant hurt
sold 19 at an average of $144 k which is not bad
-
Bettors Wish, Lazarus, Bit Of A Legend are doing well as sires . All sons of Bettors Delight
-
Betters Wish only had a crop of 39 so even with his one good one it remains to be seen. Voukefelas is the only real fast Lazarus and Bit of a Legend has not produced anything of substance yet. It's the same with All Bets Off, no commercial success although he did sire that freak Burke filly Pass Line.
-
First year for bettors wish and legend . Raced at the fairs with alot of the legends . Betting line isn't the worst . Its a total crap shoot with studs . You never know , usually show their worth within a few years

I know very little about breeding and am in no position to argue. I find your forecast interesting because MANY on here are crazy about TDS.

Lazerus is total flop. He's had one horse who can't even go with Top 3yr olds. I think they lowered his stud fee as well. Bettors Wish is only had one foal to function. Saying Betting Line is good is bad statement. He got top top mares and had 1-2 decent horses. No real stake horses.
-

Oh he's good looking and checks all the boxes with pedigree but he is a Bettor's Delight and the family line is done. Cam Fella - Cam's Card Shark - Bettor's Delight.....
Albatross - Niatross - Nihalator.......
SomeBeachSomeWher e - Captain Treacherous - Captain Crunch.......
There are many many more and I could go on and on but breeding and stallions have very distinctive traits over time. Norman Hall gives some very good insight on this with hard statistics and facts. He proves with numbers what the old timers know with there history.
-
Ahhh!! Cam's Card Shark.. Loved that horse. Kinda forgotten about as time unravels

Bettors Wish has done enough to get a real shot in PA where itll be much tougher sledding against real sires, not just Lazurus.

I could be wrong but I think Tom Grossman purchased Blue Chip. Kimelmans are out.

Bettor's Delight has produced some good racehorse siring sons, but none so far have proven they can carry on the line. The hope is on TDS or one yet to come. I wouldn't throw dirt on the line yet.
Dominant sires sometimes come from obscure sires:
Sweet Lou -- Yankee Cruiser -- a failure at Hanover.
Abercrombie -- Silent Majority -- Henry T. Adios --- if Adios produced a dominant son to carry on the line my money would be on Bret Hanover -- not Henry T.
SBSW -- Mach Three -- the Volomite pacing line was on it's way out for years until SBSW.
I'm sure Captaintrecherous will leave a dominant son at some point -- not Crunch. Or maybe one of the other SBSW sons.
Albatross was an outstanding racehorse sire and of course an exceptional broodmare sire, but failed to sire a son to carry on. Every farm was standing an Albatross son or two -- they all failed -- even Niatross -- he had two or three excellent crops then they moved him out of Kentucky and he failed miserably.
I too like Norman's theories.

I have no idea. I meant in my day. they ( uncle and grandfather) had personal seats on the exchange from what i gather, though what i know about the market could be picked out of a thimble with a hoof pick.

What’s the story with William Pollock he is spending crazy money
He spent $3.2 million on only 9 yearlings. This is ridiculous. Add on $50k EACH one for training and stakes fees next year, which is another half a million, and where are you if MOST, if not ALL, are busts as 2 year olds? Anyone here who was given $100,000 free cash to spend on an auction would be more successful picking something out then these lunatic owners, with their hot-shot trainers are, who are supporting the breeding farms..........“Obviously, Andrew Harris and Mr. Pollock came in here strong and determined and he was very successful in his purchases,” Reid said. “I had nine on my list,” Harris said. “I told Bill, ‘If we get like six or seven of the nine, that would be great.’ He said, ‘No, we go nine-for-nine.’ I kind of figured early that we were going to come home with all nine. “[Pollock] understands that building a stable wasn’t going to be a one-year deal. It’s going to take a couple of years to build it up and he’s fully aware that at this level some horses aren’t going to work out and some are. To be a part of this, you’ve got to chase it and that’s what he wants. He wants to be at the top of the game, so to be at the top of the game it’s going to cost SOME money.”
-

Oscar and his son Mike were stock brokers. I knew Oscar pretty well. His grandson Mike trains and drives. He does pretty well in the amateur races at The Meadowlands.
-
Hickory Lane Farm, not setting the world on fire with its breeding program either. Top broodmares and mediocre stallions. They need a revamped business model, or just become a broodmare band owner.
-

Is the amateur mike the son of the Mike that used to stable at YR and train and drive professionally back in our day? the mIke I am referring to would be in his mid 60s I am guessing based on my age.

Mike Jr is the only Kimelman that trains and drives. He is an amateur driver now but has trained and driven for years and has had some success. His grandfather Oscar and his father Mike Sr. both stock brokers, started Blue Chip. Neither trained or drove but are/were very good businessmen.

Captaintreacherou s was a chased horse most the time…

Captaintreacherous was a chased horse most the time…
Correct. Another one was Cam Fella. I like horses that refuse to lose. Tall Dark Stranger was headed several times and came back to win. I consider that a plus and not a flaw. IMO
-
Day 2 ave at 97k higher than 2022 day 2 90k. Capt T seemed to slump with just a 77k average today on his hips sold. Those that left Father P for dead he has a decent crop of 2 yr old fair well and he averaged just over 100k for hips sold today. Better return with that 10k stud fee than prior years.
-

Absolutely a plus. Hopefully he passes it on. The whole line going back to Meadow Skipper has been dead game.

Damn right. I had several Most Happy Fellas and they were as game as anything.

What’s the story with William Pollock he is spending crazy money
I never heard of this guy till recently. Is he related to Tom Pollock? Is Seven Colors his first horse? Certainly his first World Champ. Might be superstitious too. Paid SEVEN Hundred Thousand for a half brother to his other horse SEVEN Colors.
Good luck to him spending this kind of money.
-
Pollock bought his 10th yearling today for a $350K number, bringing his 10 total spent to $3.55 million.

I always thought of Alagna as more of a pacing trainer
he has really concentrated on trotters for a few years now

Tds was brutalized by Yannick . He was not a willing horse when threatened. A lot are selling cheap if he produces what they hope for.
-

Yeah, He was a disgrace. 22 starts with 19 wins and 2 places. Over 2 mill in the bank. They should have gelded him. Maybe he would have tried harder.

They do great in NZ because they mature and get better with age. He's had like 20 millionaire down there, and they excel at the longer distances.
Their long suit is stamina.
Lazarus got better with age and I agree, most of them by him and his sons are not going to run early and over a mile. The best one down there did a suspensory and was retired. He ran against the best in Australasia a few wears back and won 4 times in 13 days. The Interdominions required a horse to race Saturday, Wednesday and Saturday in heats and then the final a week later. He won all 4 and in three of the races he sat 3 wide for a lap and a half and buried them with incredible stamina and guts. 4 races over 4 different distances as a 4yo.
So no, as much as I like Lazarus (I'm a kiwi so I am a little biased), I would not buy one if I wanted a great 2yo. They will be few and far between. Now put him to a Christian Cullen mare down there or if there are a few here and they are pure gold. That cross has returned over 150 different winners and at least a dozen or more out of CC mares are millionaires.

At the Lexington sale, Takter has purchased 13 yearlings.
“I think it’s a very strong sale,” Takter said. “There were a lot of nice individuals that I missed out on, that I would have liked to train, but I’m trying to stay away from going too crazy and filling my barn up with (high-priced) yearlings. I try to be a businesswoman when it comes down to it.
“It was hard to tell the bid-spotter once in a while ‘no’ because I really wanted the horses, but trying to be fiscally responsible for my owners is my No. 1 priority and my No. 1 job. So, that was a little frustrating. But I think we ended up with individuals that will do very well on the racetrack and can hopefully be some fun for their owners and make a little bit of a profit for them.”................fiscally responsible is not spending hundreds of thousands of dollars of OTHER people's money and then turning around and stating she hopes to make a LITTLE bit of a profit for them! She is basically admitting most owners are throwing away their money on these pipe dream highly priced yearlings! The insanity that goes on at these auctions is mind boggling!

If I was spending the money these owners are for Andrew Harris and Andy and Julie I’d be giving the pacers to Pelling, Steve Elliott and the trotters to Ake Melander or Noel Daley.

It will cost around $25k each at 2 to stake horses that are expected to play at this level. From what I’ve seen so far Andrew is also listed as owner on the ones racing. I’m guessing he will s training them on deals.
