Is the driving colony only 8 drivers?? The same guys are in every race.
-
There's more than 8. A few guys went to the Cayman Islands with 2 or 3 duffel bags. They will be back soon to add to our outstanding colony of drivers. 11.wp

I said that a couple weeks ago when I mentioned Jason B. is a big fish in a very small pond and some on here took great exception to that. But it is true. Especially when George is on the road. Who does Jason have to beat?
-
Kakaley can drive with them.
Jordan Stratton might fit this group.
After him, there's a steep dropoff.
Don't know how to classify Joey BonBon...
But with those purses, I'm suprised some young buck doesnt give racing at YR a shot.
Braxten Boyd and Tyler Buter did, not sure it worked out that great.
Maybe the environment isn't very inviting for new talent....

Most of the Midwest hot young talents will not come to Yonkers for reasons of culture. Both on and off track. They have a real hard time felling comfortable. Many have come and gone even while having success on the track.

Yes and with the race secretary calling his favorite drivers straight after the draw--the "IN" drivers like Bartlett-get all the best horses and inside draws. This then filters to the trainers-who are not stupid with what's going on--so you see the same drivers listed on 3 or more horses a race. Any new driver-instantly-won't be on the best horse and invariably-will be on one with a bad draw. Since drivers mostly drive hard when on a favorite horse in the betting--the long shots with out of town drivers--have a very tough time-so most don't bother, that's the result you get with monopolies.
-
Certainly not the YR of my day. Decent drivers like Kakaley, Stratton and Bartlett would be getting 4 and 5th call horses vs Lachance, Carmine, Herve, Case, Ouelette, Buddy

Is it not the same at every track?

The answer is a resounding YES! If there is a major accident early in the card, they could very well cancel the rest of the card for lack of drivers! Sad but true!!

SAME THING HAPPENS AT HOOSIER WITH DELONG AND TRACE. AND THEY WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE WHO IS TRYING TO GET STARTED TO COME IN AND TAKE ONE OF THERE DRIVES. LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID TO BRANDON BATES. AS SOON AS THEY GET A LITTLE DIRT ON SOMEONE, THEY IMMEDIATELY WORK WITH THE STEWARDS TO GET THAT DRIVER THROWN OUT. ITS PRETTY SAD THAT THESE "TOP DRIVERS" ARE SO INSECURE.

Correct. It is a dump on the property and a dump outside of the property. Hard to believe the place is still open. One has to believe decoupling is on the horizon.

Don’t be stupid. Brandon couldn’t get more than 2 drives in a night 15 years ago. Long before John am Trace. Sometimes you gotta face reality.

Does this thread not give any props to Daniel Dube or Brent Holland?

I was a huge Dube guy when he burst upon the scene. unfortunately, he has never been the same since that horrific accident years ago now.
-
I guess Gallo was the pinnacle of his career.
-
What a tough SOB that little guy was. i saw him put down a race at the Big M that took my breath away. Turned out I was standing right next to his ownership group. I was more excited than they were! LOL
-
That guy wasn’t too little. I stood next to him in the M paddock towards the end of his career. Big and mean looking. The groom told me not to get too close to him. All I know is Gallo kicked our horse’s ass that night.
-
Never seemed that big to me, but that's irrelevant. if you had a horse racing against Gallo, you had a really nice horse. Congrats and salud!
-
Mark Ford and the owner should have retired him earlier out of principle alone in my opinion. Yes Gallo still cleaned our clock in a NW $15,000 L6 but this was a true champion who should not have been forced to race at his advancing age. I guess winning $4,200,000 wasn’t enough for the connections.

Oh I see, you mean late in his career. would it be intrusive or revealing to ask the name of your horse? i understand if you decline

This thought warms my heart. Ideally this would happen at other tracks, but it is like the joke....what do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

A good start
-
People still watch Jai Alai, the most crooked betting events ever? I was in college and my buddies would head over to Miami Jai Alai on a Saturday night. The excitement was like going to a Super Bowl. The fronton was always packed on the weekend. But it was years later when I read just how fixed these great nights around Florida were. Never again for me.

I will and let me apologize up front for asking in the public forum. Very stupid of me.

Anybody remember this?
Hawthorne about 20 years ago.
Horses turn to go to the gate.
There is a problem.
Result.
A horse is scratched because no driver to drive the horse.
Why was there no driver to drive the horse?
Who was the driver that turned the horse to the gate?
He was a kid then, but you all know him now.
What happen that he couldn't drive the horse in the race?
