Years ago, I was friendly with one of the directors of the NJRC. I asked him once why penalties for positives weren't more severe. He told me that unless they caught the individual in the act, there is always the possibility that the horse was drugged without the trainers knowledge. He then went on to tell me that even though the trainer responsibility rule clearly states that the trainer is ultimately on the hook, the NJRC was worried that the rule would never stand up in court because a trainer can't be held accountable for a criminal act performed by someone else. HOWEVER. once again, a trainer, this time Brandon Mongiello, is caught red handed with drugs, needles syringes etc., and is not given a lifetime suspension. This is just another example of why harness racing is in the toilet. Mongiello will pay his fine, serve his time while another person is listed as trainer and eventually he will be back committing the same acts. Does anyone remember the morning of the Adios when harness racing "royalty" Pelling, Daley and Norman were caught tubing a horse in the receiving barn? Just another example of how enforcement of rules is a fucking joke. Flash forward 25 or so years and the media comes in their pants praising those three criminal trainers which proves once again how pathetic harness racing is.

Very sad that racing is in the state it is in. After the FBI thing 1 would have thought Usta would have stepped up their game. All penalties n fines should be more imho
-
Brandon got 1 yr....he was not caught with drugs red handed....facts do count

Really asshole. The only fact I think counts is that you are a douchebag.

Oh, now I'm right. Listen moron or should I say Brandon, You/he is guilty and needs to find another profession.
-
Do you think the days eill be served in next 3 yes...?
-
His fault was being caught. You don't think others and mostly big stables don't keep needles and syringes in the barn? I bet you could stock a pharmaceutical factory if Goshen and Gaitway were searched!
-
When the barns at Showplace were knocked down how many 50 gallon drums did they fill with needles and syringes that came from between the boards of the stall walls?

You're absolutely right. My point is when you do catch someone, throw the fucking book at him or her. Eventually, it will scare people straight. It's just like when Rudy Giuliani said he was going to clean up Times Square. Everyone laughed at him because it was the biggest dump one could imagine but he doubled the amount of police and arrested EVERYONE, even jaywalkers. The criminals disappeared and now Times Square is like Disney World. Harness Racing needs to grow a pair and adopt a two word rule....ZERO TOLERANCE!!!
-
They give these guys just enough time to warrant a big fine! If they give a lifetime suspension, then the cheater will never pay a dime!. Cash grab is a higher priority than integrity to most officials!

That is why horse racing needs the Feds to run it.

Well, if that is correct, then he should be ashamed of himself. Not only is Mongiello a piece of shit but his 2 best friends are Surick and Bongiorno who are also fecal matter.

Mike, im not sure feds overseeing will be a panacea. The public doesnt understand the depths of the problems that permeate racing. I mean you have some big names that came up in doping scandal (which i believe was stumbled upon by authorities and only reluctantly addressed) that continue to be major influential industry players. The die hard insiders/fans and some politicians do but no one is moved to act intently and wont be until public is fully aware and forces real change to be on the politicians plates. Theres just a lot of more pressing societal and political problems.
All these oversight changes are window dressing to placate public optic and allow those profitting from current system to continue. When i talk to people most think drugs are tested for and horses well cared. But the wizard of oz is slowly having his curtain pulled back to give the public a better view.

Pelling, Crogan and Daley single-handedly ruin harness racing!
Owners were chasing them around like they were celebrities giving them good horses.
Only to find out that they were using a box of baking soda and a bag of confectionery sugar before anybody else! Same goes for EPO.

Rudy got rid of the mob now look at the fucking shit show! Not very bright Rudy!

What % of total handle on harness racing is pure fan based vs. industry related and insiders?

Ok let’s be honest. Have you ever seen the Federal Government do a better job than the State Government at anything?

You're kidding, right. Go ask Allard, Banca, Dane, Grasso, Servais, Guido and all the others that are now in jail if they would rather have the state or the Feds enforcing harness racing. What a fucking idiot you must be.
-
Is this the guy who dresses like shit?
He says Jeff Gural approves of his attire ngc3

You're apparently just a toddler who doesn't know how disgusting Times Square was. You literally had guys jerking off in broad daylight. Read a history book. As far as the mob, most ratted on each other. That is why they disappeared.

So let me get this right jerk off, crime has risen because there is no more mafia. You my friend are a complete stunad but with a name like gaagoots, no one is actually surprised.

So where are the feds now?? You constantly complain that rampant cheating is going on. The feds got handed all the information from a PI group. Notice they have done nothing else since. Probably too busy Truitt find a way to keep Trump out of the election so we can have $8 gas in 2 years
-
Don’t get me wrong Brandon is a POS. Always has been. But according to the appeal everything they found was in a trash can outside his barn. We will see how this plays out but this is still America where you are innocent till proven guilty. You guys should all pray that never changes. We all do shit that could get us locked up if the right person gets a hardon for us
-

Maybe the Feds don't do anything but it was more than the state commissions did which was NOTHING.
-
I agree we need more enforcement but look at what the Feds have done with HISA. At least 1 guy was put out of business for 2 months for a positive that turned out to be false on split sample. Don’t know about you but that would seriously hurt my family for no reason
-

Innocent? LOL! What about his pending orphenadrine positive. I guess the horse Here Comes Red rummaged through that trash can and injected himself before racing.

I guess in your mind it's OK that the states have squashed thousands of positives. What about the families that lost to drugged horses? You're an idiot.

I’ve lost my share of races to drugs. Which is why I have a real job and play with horses on the side.
-

You think everyone should be banned from their business or thrown in jail without a hearing?
-
Maybe you should move to North Korea or Iraq
-
You people sitting on the sidelines need to do some research for yourself. NJ is a pain in the ass. Any other jurisdiction you can have the medication needed to treat an emergency situation in your barn. You should take a break and train a few horses. Get a colic situation at 10pm. Good luck getting a vet to come out before you gotta send it to the clinic for $5k. Anywhere else you give it Banamine and 90% will improve in an hour. Imagine if the government told you if your kid had a temperature you couldn’t give them aspirin. Take them to ER.
-
The smart trainers and their assistants keep an emergency medical bag in their trucks. Commission doesn’t have the authority to check them. Nobody said Brandon was smart. Hell last year he had the idiot that thinks he is a trackman at Chester shoeing his horses because nobody else would do it without getting paid
-
The game went to the cheaters. I know there were always some. Now it is the best pre-race. The other factor is have money. Look at how long Holloway, Burke, Alagna, & others go without serving. The little guys get a year & can't afford to fight it forever. The big guy gets their time reduced, serve it after the stakes season, or in some cases just pay a fine.
In my opinion all the ones arrested, Burke, Bongiorno, Alexander, & others force the little guy to cheat. There is no other way for them to be competitive.
Don't give that better horse crap. I saw what Pena did with 10 & 15 claimers.
-
No positives squashed by state....zero. stop.....

You can defend yourself much better than that, no?
