Title: How much has HISA actually impacted Harness Racing ?
Post by: dinkadoo on September 21, 2023, 12:44:48 PM
Are there two sets of rules or standards for harness racing and thoroughbred racing ?

Reason I ask, one of the horses that broke down on TV in a graded stakes at Saratoga - have come to find out that he was injected 14 days before he raced which turned out to be the final race -- but also was injected 14 days out from his three previous races. In addition the same pattern was used for another of this trainers horses that broke down and put down while racing at Monmouth.

Is there a 14 day wait period in harness racing once a horse is injected in harness racing ?

Injected is vague. Cortizone, acid, which joint? Need info. Waiting period depends on situation.

HISA only is over TBred racing. Harness and 1/4 horse racing thankfully will be included after they get the bugs worked out. As far as the joint injections it is funny having the 14 day stand down in the NFL they can get an injection at 1/2 time

good point --- with this particular thoroughbred trainer it seemed like acid and was a joint injection.

I believe HISA was embraced by Canadian harness racing. At least the Maritimes

That still happens in harness. I’ll wager it does off track with Tbreds also really no way to test for spun platelets or some of the homeopathic remedies

Zero impact, HISA hasn’t taken over in one Standardbreed state, only runners

Not likely they still handing out $100 fines. The best part of HISA is the new fines and suspensions are expensive
