Title: Cat Fight at Monticello Raceway
Post by: theokodjak26 on August 25, 2023, 08:09:36 PM

Another entertaining, sad in some cases, Friday when the USTA publishes their weekly listings of fines and suspensions. In this week’s edition we have Robin Di Benedetto squaring off with Michelle Logothety for the undisputed female championship in the MR paddock. Too bad the USTA didn’t post the judges scorecards nor did they tell us who won the belt. So if any Plopper has a youtube of this event or any further fight info, feel free to share it with us.

Got it…the 5 D’s in harness racing. Drivers, Dames, Down, Dirty at the Dump. Starring DiBenedetto. Kind of a catchy theme. Put it on the front page of the MR programs, the side wall of the entrance and of course in the paddock.

Kyle Dibennedetto has to be the one of the biggest busts in harness racing history for a guy that has spent 40 plus years in the industry. In the early to mid 80's he was being touted year after year as the next big thing driver at Pocono and never stepped forward. Same as a baseball minor league player never making the big show. Has been an auto toss at Montishithole for MANY years and not sure how he even makes a living on the 20,000 paycheck at 5 %.  Bottom feeding duo.

Essentially correct, but a bit overblown and exaggerated. I've known Kyle since we were in our teens. He does average about 45k a year based on his earnings. In know he could drive a bus and make that.  I think he has amassed like 7k wins toiling along. Gets a lot of "envelope" money. Definitely a form of bottom feeder.

Hey Fug did you include the combine $11,000 in purses they earned at Going Broke at Tioga Downs? Your Kyle/Robin stats are insanely pathetic. Don’t they make any income training for their owners? If they have any children or a mortgage they can’t possibly make ends meet on $45,000 a year. If this is all true they should immediately change careers. If they both found jobs for a low $15/hr their income would be over $62,000 a year. Plus I guarantee their lives would be easier.

I totally agree. That's where I was going with this. Unfortunately, many drivers who dont train, make even less in this industry. For example, how does a Shane Taggart make a living?. I do know that for many years, they were living on Bill D's farm. Kyle lost his mother young in a terrible car accident. I unfortunately was in the vicinity when he found out. I think they are in the Honesdale Pa area now. I actually gave him a few horses to train in the mid 90s, But pulled them after less than a year when I found out the horses weren't getting out and they were getting to the barn around 12. I am not advocating for Kyle, I agreed he is an "also ran" for the most part. Many many drivers out there like him.

"Side money" at Monticelllo, please. There are zero other choices for a guy like this. He is a 7% winner and bats under 200 at this wasteland. Welfare pays on par for these two and they fit right in with what has happened at this once great track.

True, but if you are paying attention he has been venturing to freehold a lot and did a lot of business back in the day with Catman. Plus, remember, Monti handles Very Well   There is money to be made there gambling

Ty   All comes down to needs, lifestyle and perspective  One of  Monti's leading drivers once quipped to me. "If I'm first or second at least once each and can take out $150 to $200 cash daily, I'm happy, I'm good. All I need"

That crap has been going around for decades ever since Billy Parker relegated him to the area just in front of the locker room at Monti. who cares anyway? All I know is he was with a girl when they caught him with cocaine on the grounds of Monti and he has been with Robin at least 30 years. Before that he dated Taggart's sister, Dee Dee

Canton on Broadway in Monticello closed a long time ago. We loved their Chinese food. I remember we were always greeted by a big, fat American lady who owned Canton with her skinny Asian cook. She could be a misery depending on her mood but they packed them in during the summer. So Fuguzzi where did you take Kyle for Chinese food?

Well Kaplans Deli restaurant, which was directly next to Canton, closed in 1992. So imagine Canton closed somewhere near the same time frame.

Kyle's old man, Bill was a bad dude. I imagine growing up with that half a phyco was challenging. Billy died a mysterious death in Virginia. Found bludgeoned to death in his bedroom, I believe. Never heard the outcome of the investigation.

Kyle also lost his mother at a young age to a horrific car crash . If memory serves it was a Sunday morning. We were both at the Miss Monticello diner but not seated together when he found out. Pretty sure she was a nurse and was driving to work on an icy stretch when she went off the road and was killed in a most grisly way. Bill was most definitely a nut. i remember Kyle got his A lisence at 17 and was driving vs the regs at Monti and Bill would be very verbally and physically abusive to Kyle. I once saw Bill get so mad at Matt Romano for crowding Kyle in a race, he went over to Matty, scooped him up and deposited him upside down in one of those green barrel garbage drums that were in the paddock. I knew Bill had moved down to Va. when he retired. I always thought I heard something about a heart attack. I must be wrong. Had no idea he was murdered, but with his temper........

That is the thing, Fu'. The investigation was still open the last time I checked. I don't believe cause of death was ever ruled a homicide.

Wow, losing both your parents to extreme violence of two different kinds. That is tough. I remember Sunday BBQs at Bill's spread near the track. His wife who I think was ironically named Virginia was a sweet lady. Lotsa food. Pretty good stories. there son was an infant. Daughter not even born yet. That lady and her grandchildren never really knew eachother.
