He's hurt the game for his own personal gain. He could care less about Harness Racing at the Meadowlands. All he cares that he bought a Casino license for pennies on the dollar and his total investment is guaranteed by the State of NJ. The Meadowlands will become a parking lot when he gets the full casino license in the near future. Why were only Harness Trainers targeted in the FBI Investigations? Because Gural has no T-breds! Navarro and Servais only got lumped in because of Nick Surick and Oaks. Fact is Gural hated Surick and despised Oaks & Allard. He was going to do what ever he had to to eliminate them and everyone else was just extra. He contracted Five Stones and sent them on a mission to go after Surick, Oaks, & Allard. Wanna beat the competition? Eliminate them and you no longer have to worry about it! Oaks beat him yrs ago with a trotting filly and then told Jeff to Fuck Off. Jeff's vindictive and basically set out to ruin Oaks life along with others he didn't like. Notice none of his trainers were investigated or even questioned. You all are getting played by Gural and his band of minions. Have fun.....

It is very simple. Do you want a track owner to clean up the sport from druggies and drivers that give courteous drops into holes they should close? Or do you want an owner who has done and continues to try to protect the gambling fans? Is Gural perfect no. But he is light years better than other track owners that only care about their casinos and could care less who is cheating on the track. I believe the reason Gural has a shortage of horses because the cheaters can’t cheat there.

He cleaned up the game so his trainers could win more money!
-
You guys are clueless. You think Gural does what he does so his trainers can make more money? Do you have any idea how wealthy this man is? Do you know how he made many, many millions outside of the Meadowlands? He is still losing a ton of money keeping the place open even with sports betting. If you are going to trash another human being at least deal with facts.
-
Let Gural give the canadian track a try, woodbine is a shitshow, boring af

It's not about the money! It's about the press and accolades the winning brings! 73cv.2

LOL - How did he make his money? He inherited it! As for losing money it's only on paper! He cries broke to get the NJ Subsidy Money. If he would have negotiated the deal correct with Fan Duel he would be swimming in money. Fact is he's a baphoon that didn't negotiate good and didn't get a piece of the internet gambling. All those cars parked on the river from NY gambling doesn't do shit for Meadowlands because he gave that up in negotiations. Only money gambled on site gets to Medowlands. Now don't cry to hard because Jeffy has his money backed by the State. He can't lose no matter what he puts in! His investors lose it all if there is failure. Jeffy can pull out any losses at 100% backed by the State. That part he got right in negotiations. He screwed his investors but he's all good.

he brings no class to the game. remember the old saying money cant buy you class?

I agree with you about Gural not being as bad for horse racing as people are saying.
He did not make millions for himself, though. He was born into generational wealth and was handed a spot in his family business through no form of merit. One could argue he has destroyed wealth more than he has created it, given what he started with. JB Pritzker-esque

Quite a few people in the real world have the same issues (see many of today's politicians)!

He has done neither.

Well if it wasn't for him there would be no Meadowlands no Tioga or Vernon where would you race with out them he doesn't need money he has lots been racing and breeding for years no one else stepped in to help racing in N.J. but him you can not like him but with out him there would be nothing.

You have made this statement concerning the state guaranteeing Gural 110% of his investment. The contract with a 110% return is for leasehold improvements. He would receive this money if the investment was a complete failure and he was no longer, a racetrack. It is standard business. When you improve a landlords property and leave the property, the cost of the improvements can be recovered by the lessee. This is only the building. Any other loss or gain is the leasee's.

If Gural got into the horse business for profit he would have bailed out years ago.

Hi Norma Rae

I think for a brief moment his intentions were good, or so it superficially seemed. Yet now that the we see hypocrisy for what it is. Having eliminated certain trainers from the venue, all the while keeping hand selected others close at hand, for his own purpose makes for a safe bet that the venue despite others having invested. Is his own fiefdom to pillage.
-
what he has well mis kept bigm from closing
what he has done poorly are
1 his dumbass amteur races,,,thta gamblers are forced to watch and bet
stupid ass rules that only apply to his enimies drivers or trainers in his dog house
and his constant repeating that hes the SAVIOR..

So, if all that you say is true, what happens when he dies? He is ancient after all.

Harness racing will linger into extinction.

It is my understanding that Gural dislikes amateur races. I read an article where he said he doesn’t understand why his customers bet so much money on these races. However I guess he has accepted amateurs because it keeps the money flowing in. It is rather remarkable that the handle for amateurs is as large as races with professional drivers. And the handle in these races is larger than the handles at every other harness venue. Go figure?
-
Better value, reduced skills to be sure, but usually equal among all drivers in the race, less corruption, etc. Sure with the amateurs the risk is greater, but so is the reward.

Has a blemish or two (a rarity in carnival stock that comprise racing) but overall tmbz1.

Another thing that I think is funny and speaks to Gural's egotism and self-pompousness is that he wrote a Wikipedia page for himself
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Gural
The format shows that this is a self-written biography, unlike the Wiki-written pages for actual celebrities.
He makes sure to write in second-hand, though, to make it seem like he was important enough for them to write one about him
-
Gural has done more to try to clean up the sport than any other racetrack operator in the last 40 years. Name 1 trainer he has banned that you think was uncalled for. The safety net on the M1 lease is for the original $100 million to build a new grandstand. All investors will be covered by it if necessary. If anyone thinks it is a big money maker for Gural. I’ll give you the same deal send any amount over $100 and in 15 years I will give back your original amount plus 10%. We will see who is laughing then

Harness racing will linger into extinction.
....and no one will even notice.
-
The horsemen and others at Vernon and Tioga would all be looking elsewhere for wor if not for Gural. NY State just kicked in some money that helped too but without Gural these places would be shopping malls. He has personally saved 3 tracks, one being the Meadowlands. There is no debate. Without Gural harness racing would be on life support.
-
I mentioned has a few blemishes but didnt mention what they are- was actually thinking because of him tioga and vernon still open. Especially vernon, yikes wtf!
-
Gural gets all the credit? What about the investors that ponied up for his idea? The Fieldings, Swedes, and big Breeders?
-
When i spent my summers in the Catskills at a bungalow colony, Jeff and his wife had a bungalow there too! I believe he was working with his father-in-law in real estate in those days. He was always very nice to me and loved harness racing. I remember as a kid rooting for a horse he owned named "Shadydale Yankios" usually driven by Dan Cappello Jr. I know there are many who don't like or hate him, but i think he still loves harness racing. I can't speak to the deal he has with the state of New Jersey since i am not privy to the agreement.
-
Jeff Gural has been fantastic for harness racing. Such a mensch!
-
I do believe Jeff started on this path with very good intentions for the sport overall Tough to swim upstream forever.

Its like politics. Everyone wants to do good in the beginning, until the machine dictates otherwise.
