Croghan has a first time North American starter in Montana Storm N in the 5th at Yonkers tonight. See on the stat sheet 0 starters in last 365. I know the rep he has but anyone know exactly why he's been gone the past year or two ?
-
I think he was MIA because of health issues. It's harness racing so anything is possible.
-
Ross has been extremely sick it was touch and go there for a while
-
Old man was pieced back together from the ground up and ready to rip the ass off a bear tmbz1
Best of luck to our good friend and mentor, go get em!
-
I think he had several back surgeries and an infection

No one gets one "ready" like Croghan does. best angle ever was beta Croghan firster off his usual one time, nothing special qualifier. Horse would drop 4 seconds and crush first time out. Other guys would qualify 2 or 3 times. Go as fast as their race class. Not Croghan, One qualifier sit glued finish 5th pace like 55 then go out and jog in 51 great prices too Cheers to the man who taught them ALL TO CHEAT like no one who ever tightened a girth

Very nice of you to say, Thorn. I appreciate it. I like your observations too. I get the feeling we prolly know or knew eachother back in the day based on the things u say and the memories we seem to share. Guaranteed we were elbows apart in the grandstand or the paddock back in the day Heres to the new King - ME! LOL

Doubt it but thanks. I didn't get my hands dirty .. just a YR and RR railbird with a stopwatch back then. Knew some of the Sports Eye writers though.
-
I see interesting well I spent lotsa time in the grandstand too! tmbz1
Do you remember in the 80s and 90s at YR there was an older white man who dressed like it was the 1940s - gangster suit and a hat He NEVER EVER had a program and he would run back and forth to the fence on the clubhouse side. Then at the last second he would run to one of the higher money betting windows and pound one of the cops assigned to the clubhouse told me he was a high handle pklayer known to the Rooneys and they called him the "plunger"

Sorry, by then I wasn't at the track very often. There's a lot of stories about crazy privileged gamblers that the tracks cater to. There were betting syndicates at Big M that the track gave special treatment to and still may.

True One at thye BigM operated out of Vegas and had a big hold on Jackie Mo

Croghan and osullivan for yrs appeared to be two branches of same tree. Croghan and Tony moved horses back and forth. The horses were often live when shipped. Would not surprise me if the import tonight runs well but im off yonkers. Tuned in to just watch last night. I think the first 6 races were won by bako (2 winners), berkeley (2), engblom and bongiorno. Tough guys and gals to beat and not any value in betting them.
