WELL THE NEW UPDATE FOR ERV MILLER SO FAR IS ALL OF HIS HORSES YOUNG AND OLD HAVE WON PURSE MONEY AT HOOSIER TOTALLING ABOUT $140k. THE LAST TOTAL I COULD FIND ON ERV'S SPENDING LAST YEAR ON BUYING INDY BRED BABIES AT THE SALE OR PRIVATELY IS ABOUT $1.5 MILLION. THEN YOU HAVE TO ADD IN THE SHIPPING COST AND NINE MONTHS OF TRAINING IN FLORIDA AT GOD ONLY KNOWS WITH ALL OF THE EXTRA ADD ONS. BEING CONSERVATIVE THRU MID JUNE, THE ERV MILLER STABLE IS IN THE RED SOMEWHERE OF $1.3-$1.7 MILLION AND THATS ONLY AT HOOSIER ALONE. WHO CAN AFFORD THIS? HE HAS COACH STEFANOS GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BUT ASIDE FROM HIM, NOBODY HAS REALLY STEPPED IT UP FOR ERVS BARN YET. I've seen a hundred owners come and go. If you think this is an investment opportunity you're in for a rude awakening. Sure, you can hit it big. Win a bunch of races with a good stallion, have the mares lined up for breeding rights and all that. But how often does that happen?
But man, the possibilities. The what ifs. Watching a baby train down to something special. Seeing them win their first race. And the dreams of the big one. There's nothing like having a horse lined up on the gate for a million dollar race. Win or lose. You will never forget that experience.

I just talked to a trainer friend of mine who said Tyler George has taken 4 or more horses from Erv for cheap money and made them into leading sire stakes horses and made over 200,000..Erv has been racing here at Hoosier for a long time and always seems to do okay. He spends more money on babies then any other trainer in Indiana so in my opinion he’s going to do good. He isn’t Tyler George but Erv is okay.

The late actor Jack Klugman lived the same experience with his t-bred Jaklin Klugman (the derby then didn't have a million dollar purse back then). Jack said it was the best 2 minutes of his life [ editor's note: Jaklin Klugman had the lead at the top of the stretch too [ I believe this was 1980 and was beaten by Genuine Risk ].

Rolling Rosie made like 200k alone last year when Erv gave up on her and sold her on ongait fir 24k. There are plenty more. Tyler George is the best trainer in America right now.

Sure thing Herman is in culliphers barn and racing in the open 1 every week. Erv does good but he also spends unreal dough for those horses. This is just a guess but I bet some of his big owners are trying to lose money for tax write offs. That’s usually the case when then start spending millions like that some of those guy gotta show some losses on their investments.

Just from my experience. The only people that are assured of making money in harness racing are the catch drivers, the farriers and the vets. Buying babies is no different than buying a lottery ticket. You better have the extra cash to spend just for the enjoyment of taking that chance. And the odds are stacked way against you of ever making a profit. Long time owners understand the odds and have the deep pockets to stay in the game. The others learn quickly it's a tough business and very expensive learning experience.

Get a clue pal. Dexter Dunn is in demand as the leading catch driver for the past five years. Has Jordan Ross ever been out of Indiana or Ohio. Only reason he is driving for USA this summer is the big guys don’t want to be bothered. They lose too much money when they do and it looks good to send a black person over there to represent the USA so we don’t look racist.

You only discuss here those who buy yearlings. What about those who go 1 step further and breed their own home breds. How much of an additional expense is it for these individuals? What about the ones who ' pinhook' too? For every 2 horses bred, generally 1 makes it, the other one doesn't. Is this a valid number?

For a guy who has only raced 2 horses this year, I'd call that making $$$$ Bird Brain!! Both racing at Scioto this week and both have a Big Shot! Put that in your hat and smoke it goofball!!

WE sold Spodogg in June of last year dummy! As for Ellison the only horse we had with him, was Fox Valley Libero, made close to 140K!! He was claimed!! If I was so broke dummy, how can I still be in business??? You have no clue! By the way Who do you own???
