"The nation's leading harness driver and two other top drivers at Freehold Raceway have been suspended for six months and fined $500 each as a result of what officials called unsatisfactory performances last month.
The New Jersey Racing Commission handed down the penalties Saturday against George Brennan, the leading driver in North America, and Jim Morrill Jr. and Howard Parker, due to a lack of effort.
The commission launched an investigation after a March 10 race generated suspicious wagering payoffs, officials said. In that race, Brennan finished last (eighth) on My Dream Come True, the 2-1 second choice. Parker on Bo Knows Matt (7-1) finished seventh, and Morrill was fifth on Neirda No, the 7-2 third choice.
The resulting trifecta paid only $92.50 although the No. 1 horse, World Class Storm, an 8-1 shot, won the race and the No. 3 horse, Letsgo Sparkle, a 29-1 shot, finished third. The favorite, the No. 2 horse, The Shawnster, also 2-1, was second. The 1-2 exacta paid $26.40, although the winner returned $19.
The judges learned that one bettor wagered heavily on the 1-2 exacta and the 1-2-3 trifecta. An investigation revealed that the bettor was Parker's chauffeur, who transported him from Freehold to the Meadowlands daily.
The bettor earned $24,000 for his wagers, but has been unable to collect $6,000 because the judges ordered the parimutuel windows closed when they became suspicious of the payouts. The bettor, who was not identified, has hired an attorney to have the winnings released."

Sounds about right

That was years ago. That was nothing new.

I'm for the gambler, honest horseman and horse, even the straight up establishment.... the guy fixes a race, no effort, and his chauffeur bets.....payout on the tri should of been 4-5 times. Greedy scumbags.
Who cares when....It was 2 years before 9/11, doesn't make me hate terrorists who killed Americans any less being 20+ years ago, or cheating horsemen too. Even Wally Case, kicking horses, and I loved him! tmbz1

Your hero Wally did a lot more than just kick a few horses. He took many of Andrew's cash filled envelopes to stiff some big favorites and score some drugs with the cash.

No doubt....I heard he shared some sniff lines with horses too....If harness racing is hell, he was a demonic prince.....and super talent too. tmbz1

Brennen, Parker and Morrill can driver circles around most of the drivers at the Meadowlands today.

Howard "Pacin" Parker, won with a lot of trotters too. Always did a great job for me. Great horseman and friend.

Where did Howard Parker drive at with this win?? I don't think he has raced in a few years. He was last driving at Vernon Downs a few years ago pretty consistently.

Thanks !!!!
I will have to check out his drives. Howard can bring in some big prices. He's #3 there without competing for a few years. After Aaron and Ronnie they all suck.

I wish other sports would exhume former participants.
Oh wait, I don't. Only this silly assed pastime likes to see 100 year old people fail while most others embrace young and new.
And I look forward to the person with the high school shop diploma to reply...
"He's forgotten more than you'll ever know."
I only hope the people that think like that choose doctors the same way.

Happens in boxing too: Michael Moorer vs. George Foreman, 11/5/94
I was in my mid 30's, and loved what I heard and learned from George Foreman before the fight, and in awe of him after, now being a little older than he was when he knocked out MM, he still remains an inspiration....ev en despite that fucking grill commercial! ;D

Until they develop a pension for these drivers of yesteryear they will continue to resurface. Most people don't realize how fast 20-30 yrs. goes by until it's too late! When you work your entire life without contributing to Social security, all you get is the minimum amount. Very few save or invest on their own.

In a blink!
Great point, each individual has their own story, one might come back because they're getting calls, and watching live racing and get the "ITCH", or like you said no formal education, no business acumen, and no savings of consequence, and no real desire to do anything else - and only lowly SS. tmbz1
