Title: Meadowlands | Saturday July 16 | Big Steaks Card
Post by: Calhoun on July 14, 2022, 08:12:38 AM
M Pace ... W Haughton ... Hambo Maturity ... $2.3 Million Steaks

Burke's got This Is The Plan in the Haughton.

That's it.  One 7 yo gelding on a $2 Mil + card.

Last year he had 9 or 10.  (( What happened to Cattlewash?))

You think he's being watched?

I sure hope the "Steaks" were big and tasty.  I prefer tri-tip myself.  It is great to see the Meadowlands having a big Steaks night.

of more interest is how his 2 yr old do
he spends huge money on yearlings and i would say results are mixed at best the last few years, he seems to do fine at ohio and pa stake races
not just picking on burke same for takter, algana etc
they and a few  others get millions of dollars of blue blood yearlings every year to develop champions

I’d like to know when they’re actually gonna measure the distance of the track and stop carding 15/16 mile races… what a joke.

Not quite…. I challenge them to measure it. The only thing you should find absurd is trying to screw your bf with that little pecker tough guy.

Well since you challenged them, Im sure they will get right on it ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3

And what are you 12 years old???? Whats with the tough guy??? and pecker talk????  ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3

Oh I know they won’t get on it… they have no incentive to do so when they just allow all these horses to get false records. I think all the tracks should move their way into the record books like this.

Pelling is the best IMO and especially getting one ready for a big race. Give him the stock and and you get the results he got tonight   To leave him for Nancy is just not very smart.

"On a beautiful night for racing and with a couple of new records set we still couldn't top $5 million dollars in total handle," said Meadowlands CEO Jeff Gural.  "Woodbine ran their big race card last month and did over $6 million with one less race."
The 13-race Pepsi North America Cup card on June 18 generated an event and racetrack record handle of $6,317,624.47. The $6.3 million handle smashed the former record of $5.6 million set in 2020. All-source wagering on Meadowlands Pace night totaled $4,733,389, up $200,000 over Pace Night 2021, but more than $1,584,000 below Woodbine's 2022 best.
"It was a good night but not a great night", said Gural. "The Hambletonian is in 3 weeks and I have to see some improvement on these handle numbers."

The card made headlines but does a casual fan even know what they saw in bulldog ? Do they care ?

11 of 14 race winners paid $6 and in most cases less than $3.60
Not great fir gamblers.

Talked about on popular harness Facebook page. After the previous two Saturdays. No horse was further than 3 lengths back at top of stretch.
After last night I think there was one that was 4 lengths back.
That’s over 45 races on Saturday night where there is no movement. Not a great way to excite new fans.

Not much for the regulars as well.
Most races don’t have any movement from 1/4 to 5/8ths. When guys pull they don’t advance. They wait for cover. The guy they want cover from is waiting for the guy in front of him and so on down the line. Instead of whining about letting in tucks the rule should be you must advance when you pull. That would make a difference for sure.
