Any idea as of it's benefits?..Other than pulling positives!

Dextromethophan is a cough supressant.

Dextrorphan (DXO) is a psychoactive drug of the morphinan class which acts as an antitussive or cough suppressant and dissociative hallucinogen. Maybe their horses had a case of the sniffles.
