Title: 99-1 shot pays 2.20 to show
Post by: Wawajones on February 10, 2021, 01:56:54 PM
9 horse in 4th at The Meowdows, 20-1 ML goes off at 99 to 1.  Horse gets third, pays 2.20 to show, trifecta and superfecta are huge.  Horse has 569 dollars bet to show, 100 plus more than favorite.  That is a head scratcher.

He only had $8 in place pool and over 500 to show. Makes you think it was some drunk who buggered up or some bridge jumper hit the wrong button. Nothing unusual with the tri payout

Obvious offshore pool manipulation, put $500 on the horse figuring he would not hit the board in order to inflate the other prices

im surprised that sites even book race bets unless they are at major tracks. this has been going on thruout the country for years. i cant believe the books keep getting it handed to them. they have to be taking a big hit.

If you are betting Canadian money into the live pool to manipulate it and then collecting US money on the off shore this might work.  However, all the off shores I know of capped show betting at $100 or $200, but you might have a syndicate with multiple accounts.

The on track money on a real longshot reduces the show odds on the longshot. This in turn increases the show odds on the other horses in the race. The person manipulating the pool wants his horse bet, usually the favorite or second favorite, to pay much more for show than normally would be expected.

The offshore $ arent part of the parimutual wagering - they have no impact on odds.

So in this example, if the manipulators horse paid $4.00 to show (when it normally might pay $2.10) and the manipulating gambler bet a $1000, he'd make $500 if the favorite he bet was in the top three.

Not that uncommon but offshore folks are on to it. And sometimes limit wagers at these tracks with tiny pools where it's easier to manipulate a pool. I doubt most offshore sites would allow someone to get away with it for long. And, in this example, it likely blew up on the fool manipulator.

It's also nevada.  Certain books in nevada don't commingle their wagers and book their own, especially in Reno. They'll let you bet 10k to show if you want to. You bet $1000 on some bomb commingled and then bet 10k not commingled.  The fav pays 3.00 instead of 2.40.  I guess you can make money doing that until a string of chalks are off the board.

Sounds like someone made an off track bet on another horse and thought the 99-1 would be off of the board.
