all the good ones are dying,so sad

Sorry, gang, may he RIP, but a mediocre announcer at best. Every race call sounded the same, whether the International Trot or a basement claimer. He would rarely call close photo finishes, and, in his retirement years, his work as a fill-in at Saratoga, was full of mistakes. Will give him credit for longevity-I wouldn't want to do night after night calls for over two decades, but far from a top tier announcer.

Plop scooped everyone with this same news back in March 2017. Turned out that reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated at that time. Trust that today’ s news, regrettably, is true.

I always liked the way he said 'fourth"
-
He's the guy who would usually call the winner then turn the microphone off?
Meh, not impressive.
He was around a long time, but a 1/2 mile track announcer can't be called great, imo.

Bob considered himself a hockey expert and he liked betting on hockey.
